It is funny how you can just say whatever you want about Black men and it garners thousands of likes. “A lot of leaders” is intentionally vague. So in this tweet and thread below we get obscure generalizations, impositions of presentism, and the reduction of Black male radicals to abusers and rapists who just wanted domination and control. All context and all evidence to the contrary is ignored so that Black men can be narrated as savages to women.

Yet it fascinates me that the opposite is true for Black feminists, where contradictions are overlooked to maintain a general claim to moral superiority. bell hooks writing in defense of sleeping with students is not made into evidence that Black feminists are predatory and just want power. Audre Lorde battering her partners doesn’t become proof of Black feminists being abusers. And again, despite the fact that among Black couples, Black women killed more Black men in nearly every year in the decades spanning the 1970s to 1990s, Black women are not generalized as misandrists who only want to dominate Black men.

The dishonesty shrouding these discourses is amazing. Narratives of Black radicals that just so happen to align with colonial and white nationalist caricatures of the savage Black male that must be neutralized for the safety of women and stability of society.
