This is painful to watch so be warned. FGM is not culture. It’s pure violence and misogyny and it’s an Islamic practice that is prevalent in Muslim countries and communities. Little girls who have no voice and no power are cut and sewn shut because that’s what Muslims believe to be purity. FGM is performed while the girls are awake. They suffer unimaginable pain and it affects them negatively all throughout their lives. Calling FGM a cultural practice and allowing it to still happen in the 21st century is a crime of its own.
