In the midst of all these shocking revelations, I urge everyone to stay focused on finishing today with a proposal that can make a real difference in the community. I, as much as anyone, would like to see Chinatown rid of fear and criminality, but we must stay FOCUSED. #chtown18
It's been a rough couple of days, but today's meeting has been anything but. Through our proposal, I'm confident that we can make a sustainable impact on the community and commemorate Laura. I'm very excited for tomorrow. #chtown18
Official statement from our coalition of community builders/organizers/advocates is out now! We're here for you all, & invite/encourage feedback. Please DM or email us with questions/comments/concerns. Open meeting tonight @ 9pm, UCAE.#chtown18
Thank you Mayor. Over 150 years ago, labor strikes were launched by migrant railroad and garment workers, yet I'm constantly reminded that the problem still persists today. Especially considering recent events, this is a light in the darkness.๐ก#chtown18
In support of our major immigrant communities, and the many factions that have let me know their concerns for ensuring the representation of immigrant communities in the #LauraSongFoundation I have decided actions speak louder than words ---> Read below #chtown18
In the face of such horrific news, I admit that I've struggled today to cope with feelings of sorrow, indignation, and powerlessness. To all UCTG students, I am sorry. UCTG should be a home where you can feel safe, especially for those living thousands of miles away. #chtown18
Couldn't have said it better myself. As you alluded, it's not enough to simply denounce heinous acts like these. We must ACT to prevent future marginalization. Migration-based problems DEMAND migration-based solutions, starting w/ increased awareness of history/reform. #chtown18
#Simmons accusations illustrate more reason to focus on inter-ethnic and migration-focused community solutions - POC and immigrants are disproportionately vulnerable to manipulation and extortion. Advocacy, activism, and allyship must be #intersectional#chtown18
"The U.S. and China will never really understand each other unless we study their language and culture and share experiences that build a foundation for dialogue...our cultures, our economies, our destinies are irrevocably intertwined." #chtown18
I am still appalled that Chinese migration history, whether it be working on the transcontinental railroad, the Chinese Exclusion Act, anti-miscegenation laws, or Angel Island, is rarely taught in high schools! Our history matters too! #chtown18
I'm happy we were able to have productive conversations yesterday, especially with regard to support for international students. Let's not forget that the ancestors of Asian Americans were also international!
I'm frankly quite concerned about these supposed underground dealings with the Lucky Dragon and the Chinatown community. Their responses to these accusations were unsatisfactory and disrespectful to a scared community. We need answers! ๐ก๐ก๐ก
