Been there. Played for 25 years. Took a 10 year hiatus because life happened (divorce instead of family building…..broken back after a motorcycle accident, etc.) and I didn’t have the constant desire to keep working at getting better….especially with limitations. The heat and humidity of Southern Illinois didn’t help me stay interested. Then I got remarried and was blessed with stepchildren and my own children that are now interested in golf. It’s reinvigorated my love for the game. Now I wish I had kept playing. Playing golf is not like riding a bike. I’ll never be as good as I was. One thing never changed though: the feeling you get from “pureing” the ball. The game will always be there. It will always be beautiful out there. Maybe life is telling you not to miss the things that you are missing while you are on the course right now. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Most golfers have an ego (I think this is the cause). Especially those under 45 and especially beginners. But there is an intermediate group that should know better but don’t. They want their handicap to shine. They don’t care that they are slowing pace and shooting themselves in the foot at league by hyping their handicap. They only want their networked GHIN to show a better handicap than they truly have. The opposite of a sandbagger. It’s an odd phenomenon…..but it happens more often than someone trying to be a sandbagger. It’s just not as obvious as a sandbagger on league night. It’s the person that knows that if they have a 10 -12 handicap from the tips…….then they have a single digit handicap at the amateur tees and that’s all that matters to them. The other interesting thing is that golfers that are a 10 true handicap usually play no better from the reds than they do from the blues. You may think what I’m saying is ridiculous…..maybe it is everywhere outside of my semiprivate club…..I wouldn’t know otherwise, but it’s true at my club. It’s the most annoying and counterintuitive nonsense I’ve ever witnessed. These are the same people that refuse to put the bad day scores in their app. I don’t understand it. What I know is these folks are not worried about pace of play it seems.

When they were networked and data compiled. A camera on a house finds a person at one point in time. Networked camera that compile 420 pictures of you a day, using a “mosaic” to create a realtime profile of your past current and potential future habits……the line was passed two years ago when they started giving small towns grants to allow them to be installed.

I wish I could say you are wrong. But you aren’t. The opposite is true as well. We are as varied as any other profession. It’s worth finding the dentist that works for you. Regardless, costs are bonkers in the most honest office. I can’t afford some of the procedures I provide. That’s a problem with the economy though. I wish I had the fix.
