Extracts from a further Spectator article (Aug 15) by Andrew Gilligan:
An academic project hosted by Cambridge University platforms creationism, the belief that the world was created by God in seven days. It promotes an academic paper demanding that schoolchildren be taught to “actively resist” the science of evolution.
At Charles Darwin’s old university, where a college is named after him, Darwin’s discovery is now described by one Cambridge researcher as an example of “potential challenges posed by Eurocentric monoculture.”
It is the latest sign of fundamental problems at Cambridge’s education faculty, the same department which hired Jason Arday.
The project which platforms the creationist claims, the Islamic Educator Learning Community (IELC), is led by Cambridge’s assistant research professor of education, Farah Ahmed, a former activist in the since banned terror group Hizb ut-Tahrir..
IELC is “hosted by” and “partners with” a university body called the Cambridge Teacher Research Exchange, Camtree.
IELC publishes on its website, with a Camtree address, a paper on “Islamic scientific critical consciousness” . . .
The paper says that “countering colonial hegemony in science education for Muslims” could include “identifying gaps in fossil records to make the case that the evidence of humans descending from apes is inconclusive.”
On Tuesday, in the wake of the Jason Arday scandal, The Spectator revealed that Ahmed had been given the prestigious assistant professorship. We noted that in a 2002 pamphlet, republished in 2017, she attacked ‘western education’ as a ‘threat’ to Muslims, condemned democracy and integration, and criticised British schools for teaching that child marriage is wrong. Like the paper’s author, Mirza, Ahmed has also said that modern science is a problem, because in the “teaching of evolution, Muslim children will be exposed to ideas that contradict Islam.”
After that story created a storm, the education faculty took decisive action. It removed the names of all its staff from its website, presumably to stop anyone who doesn’t know about web archive tools checking to see if they’ve hired any more wrong’uns (spoiler alert: they have
Other action has been less forthcoming. The faculty clearly hopes to ride this one out, issuing a statement that it is “committed to academic freedom and freedom of speech within the law.” Well, we must reluctantly agree that Ahmed – benefiting from the democracy she condemns – should have the freedom to say that English is “one of the most damaging subjects” a school can teach, or (while teaching at Cambridge) write that Muslim students shouldn’t have to worry about “gaining literacy and numeracy and other disciplinary skills demonstrated through qualifications.”
But that’s quite different from believing that Cambridge University should fund her to promote her ideas to the future leaders of the country.
Still more indisputable is that a university subject, even one as debased as Education at Cambridge, should not promote baseless, anti-scientific twaddle in the name of academic research.
But it does.
If a government insists on placing this heinous threat upon its women & girls, the LEAST it can do is allow them to carry pepper spray so they aren’t complete sitting ducks. Barbaric.
There are over 25,000 people in UK prisons for non-violent offenses; move these people into hotels and put the 'boat people' into jail - make sure to broadcast this on the beaches of France.
A lot of people have asked me for the source regarding the nearly 50,000 Islamic terror attacks since 9/11 alone in nearly 70 countries. There are many unbiased and reputable databases that tally these attacks but here is one that you might appreciate: https://t.co/7ZZAbhdmpv.
Remember, it is Islamophobic to not want Islam to eradicate you. Be empathetic and accept your demise.
Israel is behind the hatred of Muslims and Islam in general.
The 250,000 girls raped in the UK by Pakistani Muslims have nothing to do with it.
The thousands of Islamic terror attacks have nothing to do with it.
Fourteen centuries of Islamic conquest have nothing to do with it.
9/11 has nothing to do with it.
Eighty years of religious war against the tiny, only Jewish state has nothing to do with it.
The 57 Islamic countries that were once 100% non-Islamic have nothing to do with it.
The divine mandate to take over the world and establish the caliphate has nothing to do with it.
The killing of artists who draw Muhammad has nothing to do with it.
The killing of apostates has nothing to do with it.
The killing of authors has nothing to do with it.
Turning women into property has nothing to do with it.
Sex slavery and the mass murder of the enemies of Allah have nothing to do with it.
It was Israel.
Since 1948, the Palestinian Arab
population in Gaza and the West Bank has increased 700%. That is NOT genocide.
In the same period, the Christian population in the entire Middle East has decreased from 20% to 1%. This IS genocide.
Learn the difference.
I want to be really clear with my words here, as I have done since the day I launched Restore Britain as a national political party.
Islam’s influence over our way of life is far too large, far too powerful, far too much.
I visited streets in Greater Manchester where the local British population have been replaced, there is no other word for it - replaced. We were almost chased out.
Why has that been allowed to happen?
Go and watch the vote count for those areas.
Stacks and stacks and stacks of Labour votes. A mountain of them. They have imported a voter base, and continue to do so.
In the British areas across Greater Manchester, Restore Britain and Reform competed in the election - both winning thousands and thousands of votes.
More Muslim areas? Both parties got battered, mainly on the postal votes.
You can all draw your own conclusions there. I know I have…
With current birthrates, and levels of mass immigration, the Muslim population will grow and grow and grow.
It is a demographic inevitability, unless we change course VERY soon.
End mass immigration from Islamic countries. Ban the burqa, halal slaughter, cousin marriage. If a mosque is promoting hate, shut it down. Remove the foreign/dual nationals responsible. End mass dominating Islamic public prayer. Deport foreigners incapable of speaking English, refusing to work, living in social housing.
Brutally remove the cancer of Islamism.
That is what Restore Britain will do.
I am not going to sit back and watch Britain become an Islamic country.
And make no mistake - that is what we are hurtling towards.
Those wards in Greater Manchester, stacking the Muslim vote? They will turn into entire cities, counties, the entire nation.
Britain is still a Christian country, with Christian values and Christian traditions. Just.
I will promise you this.
Restore Britain will use every democratic tool available to us in order to ensure it stays that way.
If you agree, then back us and our mission to Restore Britain.
The 56 countries that are members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation believe that their nations must be Islamic. As such, they do not permit other religions to be ascendant. As such, why can’t Western nations proclaim that they do not wish for Islam to gain a foothold in their societies? Why must the West commit Civilizational Seppuku?
I sometimes fantasize about having a one-night stand while I'm away from home. Then I catch a glimpse of myself in a mirror and remember I'm really quite old and unattractive and I'm lucky to have one woman willing to have sex with me.
Remember, all Muslim countries in the Middle East were once Christian.
When Muslims invaded them, they killed the men, raped the women, and enslaved the children.
That’s how those countries became Islamic. And that’s exactly what they’re trying to do in Europe and America now.
@aaronburnett They might want to look at sectional tiling; just remove a whole panel (100's of tiles) and replace with a ready-to-go new panel. Then the refurb can take as long as it wants, so long as there are enough new panels for the cadence.
Elon Musk’s real claim about Optimus isn’t that it’s the biggest product ever made. It’s that the biggest product ever made is a tenth of it.
Musk: “I think it will be 10 times bigger than the next biggest product ever made.”
That isn’t a claim about robots. It’s a claim about every object humans have ever sold each other, and it only holds once you notice what they all had in common.
Every product ever built shipped incomplete. The drill needs a hand. The car needs a driver. The phone needs someone awake and holding it.
All of it was leverage, and leverage does nothing until something pushes on it.
You were the missing part in every machine ever made. That was the design, not a flaw.
Optimus is the first product that arrives with the operator already inside.
Which is why the company that got there first was never going to be a robotics company.
Musk: “Tesla is the only company with all the required ingredients.”
The mind and the body were never built by the same people. Labs that can think can’t stamp metal. Companies that can stamp metal can’t think.
Tesla spent a decade mass-producing a machine that already has to see, decide, and move through a world full of people.
Then priced it for a driveway instead of a defense contract.
The robot is that machine with the road taken away.
Musk: “You should be able to ask them to do things naturally.”
A machine that has to be programmed sells to the people who can program. A machine you can talk to sells to anyone with something they’d rather not be doing.
Every product in history was priced against another product. A better phone. A faster car. A cheaper tool.
This one is priced against a wage.
Wages are the largest line item on earth and the only cost technology has never driven down.
Labor is the only thing anyone has ever sold that the seller never gets back.
Every wage ever paid was a life billed by the hour.
Musk: “Nothing will even be close.”
Nothing else is close because everything else was capped by buyers. Demand for a product ends when everyone who wanted one has it.
Demand for work doesn’t end.
The ceiling was never how many people would buy it. It was how much there is to do, and there has never been a shortage of that.
Only of hands.
The prediction isn’t that Optimus succeeds. It’s that if it does, it enters the oldest and largest market on earth, one that has never had a competitor.
Every product ever made sold you a better way to spend your hours.
This one sells the hours back.
Since the religion of peace struck on four continents this week, I must repost this piece:
Adolf Eichmann, a high-ranking Nazi and one of the architects of the Holocaust, fled to South America after World War II.
In 1962, he was captured and brought to Israel for trial.
During the proceedings, the prosecution brought in survivors from Nazi death camps to testify against him.
One of them, Yehiel Dinur, entered the courtroom and came face to face with Eichmann, who was seated in a glass box. The moment Dinur saw him, he collapsed to the ground, shaking and sobbing uncontrollably.
Years later, in an interview with 60 Minutes, journalist Mike Wallace asked Dinur if his reaction had been caused by traumatic memories from the concentration camps.
"No," Dinur replied. "It was not the memories that made me collapse. It was the realization that Eichmann was not a demon. He was an ordinary man.
Hannah Arendt, a journalist for The New Yorker, attended Eichmann’s trial and later wrote about it.
She noted that Eichmann was not a psychopath, not a man burning with sadistic hatred. He was ordinary.
That is what made him so terrifying. He was a man who followed orders, who did his job, who justified the horrors he participated in without ever questioning them.
All humans have the capacity for evil. We all have within us the ability to justify unspeakable horrors if the conditions are right.
The question is not whether we are capable of evil, but what prevents us from committing it?
Most religions restrain human evil. They set moral boundaries, condemning acts of violence, injustice, and cruelty.
Christianity commands its followers to love their enemies, forgive those who harm them, and refuse vengeance. Judaism, despite its history of persecution, never formed a doctrine commanding global conquest or the extermination of non-Jews.
Islam, however, does the opposite.
When an ISIS fighter beheads a captive, he is not acting outside the teachings of his faith. He is following the example of Muhammad, who personally oversaw the beheading of hundreds of Jewish men in Medina.
When Hamas terrorists slaughter Israeli families, they are not betraying Islam, they are fulfilling the doctrine of jihad, which commands war against non-Muslims until Islam dominates the world.
Unlike Christianity, which calls for self-sacrifice, Islam calls for sacrificing others. Unlike Judaism, which focuses on preserving its own people, Islam commands the subjugation or destruction of all who reject it.
We all have the potential for evil. But the difference between a person who commits atrocities and one who does not is the belief system that shapes them.
A Christian who commits murder is violating his faith. A Muslim who kills an apostate is fulfilling his.
A Buddhist who wages war is going against the teachings of his religion. A jihadist who slaughters unbelievers is doing exactly what his religion commands.
The Nazis did not commit genocide because they were born different from us. They did it because they were indoctrinated into an ideology that justified mass murder.
The same is true for every Hamas terrorist, every suicide bomber, every ISIS militant.
Their faith tells them that their victims are not innocent, not human, not worthy of mercy. And so, they kill without hesitation.
The reality is, Islam is the only major religion that actively commands the atrocities we fear. It is the only faith where genocide, subjugation, and violence are not historical accidents, but divine commandments.
It is a mistake to think Islam is just another religion, rather than the most dangerous ideology the world has ever known.
New research claims human emissions are not driving atmospheric CO2.
A paper by Dai Ato ran multiple linear regressions for 1959 to 2022, testing two predictors of the annual CO2 increase: sea surface temperature and human emissions.
The result was clear: when the oceans warmed, CO2 levels rose almost exactly in step - about two to three parts per million for every one degree Celsius of warming.
Adding human emissions to the model didn't change the outcome.
Using only ocean temperature, the model reproduced global CO2 levels with near-perfect accuracy - a correlation of 0.995 and an error of just one to two ppm by 2022.
The main factor governing the annual increase in atmospheric CO2 concentration is sea surface temperature rather than human emissions.
Earlier studies have shown the same pattern. Temperature changes first, CO2 follows.
If Ato is correct, cutting human emissions won't lower atmospheric CO2 because it's the oceans that set the pace.
