This is a perfect example of how companies need to embrace AI for revenue instead of just cost cutting for short-term profit (i.e. layoffs).
I am a NY Times subscriber. I would definitely pay extra for an 'Agentic' subscription that would allow my Claude (or other agents) to do research that could INCLUDE their content. I'm sure many of you would as well.
Instead they have their heads in the sand, afraid of how AI could 'steal' their business (what does that even mean?!)
There are hundreds of paywall ladder sites and caches out there that bypass all this anyways. I should already one of the good guys (in their books), actually paying for their content. Maybe not for long...
nytimes<dot>com scores a pathetic 21 / 100 on agentic capabilities. They should be leaders in this space, but they are intentionally blocking AI requests.
There is market share to be had out there - which brands are going to grab at it first? What are you doing to protect yours?
