Incompetence as the SNP’s default mode of government — a long-running series.
The state-owned Scottish National Investment Bank (founded by N Sturgeon 2020) has so far spent £1.2bn of the £2bn taxpayer’s money allocated to it — and managed to lose £110m, with more losses coming down the pike. Among the list of failures it’s invested in:
Circularity Scotland — went into administration after £8m loss.
Krucial (satellite/digital tech) — went into administration after £4.6 million loss.
M Squared Lasers (photonics/quantum tech) SNIB’s first investment — went into administration with state bank exposed to £34–40m losses (equity + loans).
Trojan Energy (on-street EV charging) — went into administration early this year 2026 with significant portion of Bank’s £26–28 million commitment at risk.
Orbex (rocket/space launch) — went into administration early this year with Bank likely to lose all its £29.3 million exposure.
State Capitalism/Socialist Banking in action. A job creation scheme for bankruptcy experts.

In a successful marketing ploy, insurance bosses draped their company in patriotism by choosing the name Churchill ( our greatest wartime leader) and then used the bulldog ( first bred in England in the 13th century) as the face of the business.
Therefore I was disappointed to discover when unusually contacting Churchill by phone ( normally online) that they had moved their call centre to South Africa and that I had the most enormous difficulty understanding the lady.
She even asked me if it was her accent that was proving to be a barrier.
You would have thought that despite the commercial attractions of paying only a fifth of the wages the management of a company called Churchill would give work to Brits rather than people 6,000 miles away.
And you as British customers might take the view that under these circumstances they can do without your business.

If I’m so irrelevant why do you bother following me or responding? I do not hold the Scots in contempt. But I have nothing but contempt for the grievance-mongering numpties they elect — and urge them to wake up before it’s too late. A country that used to punch way above its weight — the greatest ‘wee country’ in the world — is now in relentless decline. Can’t even build a simple ferry on time or on budget. V sad. Hey @British_Airways — I sent an important email to [email protected] over 24 hours ago after you bumped me from my JFK to Heathrow flight yesterday, without even telling me. I only discovered when I tried to check in yesterday morning. Still no response to my email. So much for ‘priority’. Despite the obvious fact we clearly have different definitions of ‘priority’, do you think someone at BA might give it some attention? I’m only a humble former GL member, with gold status for life and I had paid top dollar for my first class seat, so I understand I might not count as much of a priority for the ‘new’ BA these days.

The Economist's editor-in-chief Zanny Minton Beddoes went to a private all-girls boarding school in Shropshire where fees run up to £45,000 per year (about $60,000).

She was born and raised in Shropshire, one of England's most affluent rural counties. She attacks @elonmusk saying he's wrong and the UK is thriving. Elon hits back that she lives a cloistered existence.

He's absolutely right. She's Oxford and Harvard educated. She doesn't live in the towns where migrant grooming gangs operate. She can't see the destruction from her ivory tower.

So many elites in this country and Europe are removed from the decay their leftist policies have brought. Good on @elonmusk for calling her out.

Those were the haunting last words of 61-year-old grandfather Peter Lynch — repeated over and over to prison guards as he refused food and water before taking his own life in HMP Moorland.

Arrested for shouting at police during the Rotherham riots outside an asylum hotel, this dad and grandad got 2 years 8 months. No violence against officers, but part of an angry crowd protesting grooming gangs, open borders & child safety.

Now he's dead. While the government fast-tracked riot sentences and ignored root causes, a confused, vulnerable man slipped through the cracks with zero mental health referral.

This isn't justice. This is what government overreach looks like when it crushes ordinary people raising their voices. RIP Peter Lynch. Britain needs to wake up.

Why did Angela Rayner receive £17K severance for resigning as a Minister in the scandal over failing to pay HMRC £40K in stamp duty and why hasn’t she been forced to give it back now she’s back in the Cabinet 10 months later.

If the speculation is right that Andy Burnham offered Rachel Reeves defence, that really doesn’t bode well. She has no interest in defence and stood in the way of giving our military the resources it needs. A relief she turned it down (if speculation correct). She should never have been offered it in the first place. Indicates Burnham not serious about defence.
