@maklelan I think there’s a way to do this without sharing your own beliefs. But it’s sad how many people are frustrated over you not sharing your perspective, probably because it’s difficult for them and they need someone to walk thru it with them.
@maklelan It would be compelling if you offered a way for your followers to engage with how they can split their theology and faith from simple “facts”. Many of your folks are expressing frustration that seems like they are expecting a pastoral response from you.
Things that this platform is good for:
1) Sharing beautiful photos
2) Sharing sports moments that we may have missed (internationally)
3) Sharing art
4) Sharing poetry
Things that it is not good for:
1) Trying to persuade the “wrong” side to change their minds
2) Trying to mediate ideological (or personal) disagreements.
Increasingly the qualities of photos, resolution of art and high quality videos gets more generative (and poems more poignant in the toxic environs). Meanwhile the culture wars battles degenerate. It’s up to us to choose which path we can individually take. @iamculturecare
Our relationship to communities—work, political, familial, educational, religious—has a revelatory function if we are willing to stand in the tension long enough. We learn more about who we are, and what those communities are.
We lose the learning, and the growth, if we flee.
As disciples (literally students) of Jesus, our goal is to learn to be like him. We begin by trusting him to receive us as we are. But our confidence in him leads us toward the same kind of faith he had, a faith that made it possible for him to act as he did. #TheGreatOmission
He said something to the effect of, "why are you selling shoes?" and that's part of why I'm going to seminary. It ended up being a nice and cordial conversation. But it shows me, about 10 years on, that I have always wanted to go to seminary most.
When I was younger I sold shoes at Nordstrom. One time I was helping Wayne Grudem and I brought up how I was currently reading Barth and really enjoying him. I think he thought I was being antagonistic but I had no idea that he was that controversial to him.
@blun535892@redeemed_zoomer Church history starts with the events that the Bible witnesses to, Abraham didn't have any apologetics to help him back up what God was saying to him. Apologetics can be helpful but there doesn't need to be a uniform consensus on it's place.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Suns legend Dick Van Arsdale, the “Original Sun” and a member of our Ring of Honor.
The first selection in the expansion draft to build the Suns roster and the scorer of the first points in team history, Van Arsdale was a cornerstone of the Suns organization. He earned three All-Star selections, was a member of the team’s first trip to the NBA Finals in 1976 and retired as the franchise’s all-time leading scorer in 1977. Beloved throughout the Suns organization and fanbase, Van Arsdale held several positions with the team, including broadcaster and front office executive, following his 12-year NBA career.
Our thoughts are with his friends and family, including his twin brother and Suns teammate, Tom, during this difficult time.
@lukeburgis I made an ai track distilling the theological implications of Rene Girard’s thought into a song and it kinda slaps.
