I also hope that our Conservative Leader comes back as energized as ever and continues to ask the tough questions a world-leading democracy requires its opposition leaders to ask.

In 1996, and then again in 1998, he stepped up to ensure the @EdmontonOilers would remain in Edmonton for the long term. He was also a powerful advocate for our wonderful province. Pierre Poilievre's U.S. media tour was a major success.

On CNBC's Squawk Box, Poilievre made the Canadian case for tariff-free trade and elicited support from Joe Kernen, the show's most pro-Trump panellist, who said, "It doesn't make sense" to attack Canada.

On Fox Business Network, Poilievre elicited public support from Larry Kudlow, Trump's former Director of the National Economic Council, to drop tariffs on Canada.

Both programs are heavily watched by administration officials and American business leaders because the hosts are trusted individuals.

Pierre Poilievre was able to strategically elicit public endorsements of Canada's trade position from American TV hosts on some of the largest broadcasts in the country. Trump's trusted broadcasters just endorsed Canada's position.

The one redeeming quality Mark Carney has is that he eventually listens to @PierrePoilievre under enough public pressure.

On the carbon tax, on pipelines, on gas taxes, Poilievre has been exactly right since he became Conservative leader.

Carney has slowly and begrudgingly adapted several of his policies, and Canada is much better off for it.

Poilievre has been tremendously effective as opposition leader. I can think of very few examples of a government that so frequently abandoned long-held beliefs and principles at the urging of the opposition -- especially one that has a majority government.

If Poilievre has been able to accomplish all this as opposition leader, imagine what he can do as Prime Minister?
