Changed my workout split as I train for my first half marathon and I’m starting to see some noticeable improvements.
Used to be something like this:
Monday: Lower Body
Tuesday: Zone 2
Wednesday: Chest/Tricep
Thursday: Zone 2
Friday: Back/Bicep
Saturday: Zone 2
Sunday: Rest
And while that helped me lose weight and get leaner, I didn’t grow or even maintain as much muscle as I wanted.
So I switched to this:
Monday: Upper Body + Zone 2 (30 min)
Tuesday: Lower Body
Wednesday: Full Body + Zone 2 (40-60min)
Thursday: Lower Body + Zone 2 (30 min)
Friday: Upper Body
Saturday: Long Run Zone 2 (90-120 min)
Sunday: Rest
So far, seeing much more muscle growth while staying somewhat lean. Energy has been low. I’ve been pretty tired, but not fatigued. It’s working. My body will adjust.
One of my friends from the gym asked me to play golf with him the other day and I was about to say no and I thought about it and was like…
- I’m kinda in the mood to play golf
- I like this guy
- I have no better plans today
- why do I even want to say no to this?
So I said yes and went and had a great time.
Lesson in there - don’t sabotage yourself.
Another 3 mile run today and couple thoughts after:
- been adding 2-3 miles on every week, and can feel it getting easier + body is recovering quicker
- need to incorporate more isometric exercises and stretching into my routine
- ego gets you injured
- daytime run>>>nighttime run
- if I keep doing what im doing I will be a machine by next year
- im still fat
- im still slow
- dont matter, its all progress
