@JessinRuislip @len_hampson @RantyHighwayman The issue with biodegradable packaging is it might incentivize people to litter. Something that is biodegradable might still take years to fully degrade in the open.
"Leveling up" funding discourages councils from taking an iterative approach to road design.
Why include a segregated cycle track while resurfacing when you can apply for central funding a few years down the line.
@RedLaser4000@jo_cunningham@shrewsburyfolk@ShropCouncil @JBuckleyLabour @OriginalShrews They're really good at sorting out ad hock things like glass and debris. But every time I report an overgrown hedge or leaves in the autumn it gets closed due to it being part of "routine maintenance".
Something is systematically wrong.
@_CanIJustSay_@CampaignCycling@essexhighways This drawing has the cycle track with the loading bays to the left of the barrier (which has gaps in it). I've marked roughly where the lorry is.
What I'm not seeing is how they safely get out.
@ShrewsburyBID@workinshrews For context: Elsmere to Shrewsbury via A528 for 17 miles is equally dull and dangerous. The Shawbury route has some nice bits but goes out via the B5062.😲
The page just needs a couple of short routes (old canal path, back roads) and some mention about utility cycling.
@ShrewsburyBID@workinshrews Nice idea although the "Cycling In Shrewsbury" page could do with an update. It starts out fine (the Quarry is great for learning!) but imo the routes are entirely focused on "serious" road cycling. Not a great reflection on the media you're using. https://t.co/x3JACM2uzz
@plotfolk If drivers keep losing their license I'd hope it'd send a message to courier companies that more emphasis needs to be put on driving standards during induction.
But I don't think this'll stop without more enforcement.
@plotfolk Lazy and selfish behaviour.
Bizarrely they've picked one of the few places police can take action. Worth submitting to the nextbase portal if you haven't already.
@plotfolk @ShropCouncil I really don't follow the reasoning given for not being able to use Section 106 money to fix things like this. Building new schools, retail, houses, etc increases the demand for safe infrastructure.
@JBuckleyLabour @NFBUK This is a relevant thread on the issue of floating bus stops. RNIB have a team in Shrewsbury so would be great to make sure their input is heard and find out what issues they face in the area.
https://t.co/JDKfWyYnYW
Exclusive: the Department for Transport is actively considering a ban on so-called floating bus stops, aka bus stop bypasses – which could mean a de facto end to new safe cycle lanes being built on many urban main roads.

@JBuckleyLabour @NFBUK Please take what NFBUK is saying with a grain of salt. Floating bus stops should be properly designed (see link) but are an integral part of creating a cycle network Shrewsbury desperately needs.
https://t.co/gKXxhRgp5L
@NFBUK Right, but that would make the cycle track no longer segregated. What stops cyclists getting pinched by a bus? How would this work for two way cycle tracks? What design is used if there isn't space for a layby?
@NFBUK Just to be clear: you're demanding that segregated cycle lanes be forced back into live traffic and you're annoyed that people are pushing back against your idea.
@RichMurley @hub_shropshire FYI I don't think they can see tweets if your account is private and they don't follow you. I'd be interested to know if the cargo bikes are still available too.
@plotfolk I assume this is from drivers trying to save about a mile on their journey. They're also driving through a pedestrian zone.
A great argument for having traffic loops in Shrewsbury, the current one way system doesn't cope with people trying to go across it.
@plotfolk I'm guessing the videos weren't supposed to be publicly listed.
There is a LCWIP scheme to investigate width/weight restrictions on this bridge, I wonder if this is related to that.
🚶 A new path has been created outside Longden Primary School to help make it safer and easier for pupils and parents to access the school.
🚶♀️ The path links Longden Road to the school’s pedestrian entrance.
