@Channel7 want a story of ferry mismanagement with good footage? Checkout the Manly ferries leaving 1/2 full from Circular Quay with hundreds left on the wharf. “Must run on time” says the @trandev shill, while deckhands mutter “how’s that working out?” Clear day. No swell.
Hey @transdev are you being graded by on time performance with no regard to how long passengers have to wait while half full #manlyferry run back and forth to Manly? Meanwhile the employee with a badge is spouting nonsense “safety” and “swell” to leave on time … & people behind
@FerriesInfo why are the Circular Quay to Manly ferries leaving half empty with lots of people waiting? They’re coming back full, so can it be safety related as a deckhand claimed? No swell to speak of.
Second deckhand said, rolling his eyes “It’s so we can run on time. Isn’t that a great idea. We’ll probably go back half empty too”.
Meanwhile the line at Manly is across the lights into the Corso.
@UrbanFerryist If today is an indicator it won’t be good. Later afternoon ferries leaving half full to Manly “for safety” but arriving at Circular Quay fully loaded. No swell to speak of. Heaps of people waiting to get on at CQ being herded around like 🐄 🐄 🐄.
@ChristianSelig I tried it & failed. Managed to make the key value store work instead. 1024 keys wasn’t enough to do it right, but 1MB storage was sufficient so I made it work. Summarised here https://t.co/6DRKB92Oat. Many advantages (eg always available, minimal confit) if data fits. Good luck!
@ChristianSelig Keep it simple. Store a single delimited string in the CloudKit key/value store. It is good for 1MB, syncs when values change. If you need to support simultaneous changes on multiple devices then you’ll need to track deletions in a separate key. If < 1024 names, use one key each.
@marcoarment I’ve always feared adding this into my apps accidentally by including 3rd party libraries. I’ve never run adds and removed Facebook authentication years ago for this reason. Perhaps harder to make money but also let’s me create nicer apps @eggheadgamesllc and they’re doing well.
@GeoffreyHuntley Weird. Always found the opposite, but perhaps that’s California vs WA rather than Texas vs Aust east coast. Certainly there’s a strain of Texas machismo that likely leans this way.
@benbjohnson On iOS I have found it is safer to include my own SQLite than use the Apple-supplied version. Details https://t.co/t58xf9oQgL
SQLite itself is better than flat files for my apps - I’ve done both w/ @eggheadgamesllc. Especially ATTACH for RO bundle data (tho Android needs a copy)
@GeoffreyHuntley The E-3 Visa is a game changer for people wishing to do this. Still need an employer sponsor but it’s fast and your spouse can work too (unlike the usual H1-B). Plenty of aussies working in tech in the Bay Area and employers happy to hire them.
I’m bummed. I was a big user of BuddyBuild, I was paying ~$89/mth for “unlimited” builds on Android and iOS (2 concurrent). It gave Indies a good way to build reliable apps. I hoped Apple might provide similar, but can only conclude that enterprise is the goal #WWDC2022 8/8
Xcode Cloud pricing was announced today (I got an email). Here’s some context and my thoughts.
Just one of my apps @eggheadgamesllc Acrostics, requires about an hour to run tests on one device. In 30 days, it used ~200 hours / month in Xcode Cloud. #WWDC2022 🧵1/8
For now, I’ll cherry pick the free 100 hrs until it goes away. My main testing will continue using GitHub Actions running on two MacStadium Minis ($50/mth each) & one at home. It collectively takes 6-8 hours for the entire test suite for all the apps: ~2 runs/day. #WWDC2022 7/8
