@optimatessuck @Texan_kimber45a @SarahisCensored@DustyDeevers I agree 100% that kids do better with 2 parents. But that doesn't mean we force couples to stay together at all costs "because of the kids." Dysfunctional families can be just as bad for kids as divorce.
@optimatessuck @Texan_kimber45a @SarahisCensored@DustyDeevers That's clearly a bad system that needs reform. That's not something I would support, and that's not how it works here in the US.
@optimatessuck @Texan_kimber45a @SarahisCensored@DustyDeevers The thing with the kids is not as easy. Fault-based divorce can potentially forcing two people who hate each other and always argue to stay together. Is that a good environment in which to raise kids?
@optimatessuck @Texan_kimber45a @SarahisCensored@DustyDeevers I'm fine with marriage based on private contracts. As I stated in another response, I've not heard of a divorce where both parties didn't consent.
@optimatessuck @Texan_kimber45a @SarahisCensored@DustyDeevers Again, you're creating a strawman. I do pre-nups, not divorces, but my divorce attorney colleagues have said that their cases involve both parties wanting a divorce. If that's what they want, the judge shouldn't second-guess their decision and grant the divorce "no fault."
@Texan_kimber45a @optimatessuck@SarahisCensored@DustyDeevers I get that you personally had a bad experience. That's not a reason to change the law for the legitimate cases. I don't know what state allows hidden witness - we have to disclose all of ours or they can't testify.
@optimatessuck @Texan_kimber45a @SarahisCensored@DustyDeevers I'm not arguing that there are no frivolous divorces with bad results. But many people divorce for valid reasons, and some divorces are amicable. You want to make it more difficult for the legitimate cases because of some bad apples.
@optimatessuck @Texan_kimber45a @SarahisCensored@DustyDeevers That's not my experience in Colorado. Sounds like a California problem. I had a case where a judge upheld a pre-marital agreement that was signed on the hood of a car an hour before the wedding.
@optimatessuck @Texan_kimber45a @SarahisCensored@DustyDeevers prior to a divorce, there are these things called pre-marital agreements where couples can decide how to divide assets. I draft these all the time, and it's usually the future wife who wants one. But you didn't know any of this before you responded, did you? End/
@optimatessuck @Texan_kimber45a @SarahisCensored@DustyDeevers You're also assuming that the spouse who wants the divorce "just because" and gets half the property contributed nothing. The reality today is both spouses work, and both spouses can bring substantial assets to the marriage. And if you want to agree on property division 2/
@optimatessuck@SarahisCensored@DustyDeevers But before you criticize the law you need to understand it and how it is applied. Saying you had a friend who went through a bad divorce won't cut it.
