After 18 years here (the first 10 of them active, the last 8 mostly dormant), I'm checking out - but the podcast lives on at https://t.co/gvGYnxONlD. See you around. xx
WHO WAS JAMES HAMILTON?
If you’re a DJ/dance music enthusiast, under 50 years of age, it’s likely you’ve never come across the name James Hamilton, yet the dance culture we now take for granted simply wouldn’t have unfolded in the way it did without him. https://t.co/Bc3hzCm6ZN
Very pleased to receive this book from @djgregwilson - James Hamilton’s Record Mirror Disco columns between June 1975 and Dec 1982. A UK equivalent of Vince Aletti’s brilliant Disco File: Hamilton is thorough, eclectic, and totally tuned into the dance floor
Pre-sale: https://t.co/jKfcM1ZHlf
Who Was James Hamilton? - a podcast in which I talk with the DJ Greg Wilson about the book, and about James in general: https://t.co/i2B420lJZr
And so, the blog becomes a book, now available for pre-sale with copies dispatched ahead of its official publication. This has been two years in the making, and I couldn't be happier with it.
@JonSavage1966@djgregwilson Glad you like it, Jon - putting it together was a real labour of love, and I hope it helps to re-establish James's reputation as a prime mover in UK club culture.
Saw an advance copy of this book, edited by @miketd, whose stepfather James Hamilton was, the other day, and can't wait to read it. Essential reading for anyone interested in the history of soul and disco DJing in the UK and beyond. And a beautifully produced book.
Oof!
A kilogram in weight and 530 glorious pages - this handsome tome has just hit the doormat courtesy of @djgregwilson and SWS Books. @petefowlerart adorned and with an intro from @FatboySlim published 9 December.
Who’s in for a launch event? 🪩

Get this, right: if you played all of our podcast episodes back to back, it would take you a staggering 67½ hours to get through them. The latest episode is a mere 90 minutes, but you might start wondering whether we will ever get past The Tremeloes (as I had A LOT TO SAY).
Also gives me a reason to trot out two of my "when I met the stars" stories, plus there's bonus San Marino Eurovision heats content, and a heartwarming vignette of our early courtship days.
NEW EPISODE: Lulu sidesteps the Dumper in the nick of time, a pop hit that rock critics can "dig", synthed-up Zydeco, a miming model, When Profanity Filters Go Wrong, and our most polarising track EVER: just watch the fur fly.
@DPunctum Yeah, we weren't expecting this one to be called so early in the morning, and I was just attempting a power nap when the news came through - at which point I pinged wide awake and stayed that way until 6am. The shock of the new!
@RuncornPlan Thanks for finding this out. Happy to wait a while longer, relieved that the order hadn't been lost. Meanwhile I've got the official downloads to enjoy, so no problem!
NEW EPISODE: Elvis Presley vs Simon & Garfunkel vs Detroit Spinners vs Paula Abdul vs Sisqo vs Professor Green.
The voting deadline for this episode is 6pm UK time, Monday 13th May 2024.
NEW EPISODE: It's three boys versus three girls - oh no, wait, BLONDIE IS A BAND - in one of our favourite selections ever, with songs of love, longing and going out on the lash. You might struggle to rank 'em this time, but rank 'em you must!
Voting deadline: 6pm, Tues 26 March
