If you're afraid to be seen hustling, selling, or starting from zero. Get comfortable staying broke. Pride has kept more people poor than failure ever will.
Athletes: skill work 3, 5, 7 days a week means nothing if you’re not getting bigger, faster, stronger, and more explosive in the offseason.
You can create separation with technique, but if the dude across from you is stronger and faster, he can erase your mistakeand sometimes erase your advantage.
Skill gets you open. Athleticism keeps you open. Train both.
Some of us can meet you one time and never see you dribble a ball and know what chance you have to play basketball at the collegiate or pro level. It's not hard.
I think part of players struggling is “cool” has been integrated way too much. We announce that we are reclassing, what middle school we going to, making different color shoes, etc. Everything is attention seeking and less about how much better have I gotten and will still get.
Parents have left great situations so their kid can “bring up the ball.” Then they join a weaker team, dominate the ball, and realize it didn’t actually make them a better player. Bringing the ball up isn’t the goal. Becoming a complete basketball player is.
Weird how we don’t see this kind of stuff all day everyday, isn’t it? Good on Stephen A Smith for taking responsibility for his horrible actions and making it right:
Parents: If you’re kid loves basketball, here’s two things that I STRONGLY recommend:
1) If you don’t let your kids dribble in house, buy them a silent basketball.
2) Have them dribble anytime y’all are walking anywhere.
3) Always have a basketball on hand.
A lot of the basketball training you see for kids heading into their freshman year of college simply doesn’t translate to the college game. Freshmen need to be elite at the basics: catch-and-shoot, scoring in two dribbles or less, defending at a high level, and being physically and mentally prepared to compete every possession. That’s what earns minutes.
John Calipari during Arkansas’ practice:
“If you’re not a dog on this team, you won’t play. I feel bad for you; no one got promised anything. I’m playing the dogs, because if I put a bunch of dogs out there, we’re not losing.”

After a great conversation, I am blessed and grateful to announce that i’ve received my first D1 offer from the University of San Francisco. Thank you to the coaches for this opportunity and to everyone who has supported me along the way! #divinetiming#tgbtg
