Energy bills are higher now under Labour than when they took office, and they’re about to go up again. When Keir Starmer’s government came to power in July 2024 the Ofgem price cap for a typical household on direct debit stood at one thousand five hundred and sixty eight pounds a year. After two years of Labour in charge that same typical bill is currently one thousand six hundred and forty one pounds for April to June 2026 already higher even after the much hyped April cut. That April reduction was not some bold new policy delivering real savings it was largely achieved by shifting green levies and Energy Company Obligation costs off energy bills and onto general taxation. In plain English the money did not disappear we are still paying it just through our taxes instead of our bills. Ofgem has now confirmed the cap rises sharply from the first of July 2026 to one thousand eight hundred and sixty two pounds a year. That is a thirteen per cent increase or an extra two hundred and twenty one pounds on the annual bill for the average household. Unit prices for gas are jumping twenty eight per cent and electricity six per cent. Even after this summer’s rise typical bills will still be around fifty three per cent higher than pre crisis winter twenty twenty one slash twenty two levels. So while Labour claims credit for a temporary dip that helped April’s inflation number the long term picture is clear bills are higher under this government than they were when it started the so called savings are mostly accounting tricks and another big hike is already locked in for July. Families will feel it in their pockets again.
Let’s talk - @ScottishPower have just emailed 2 tell me my energy prices are going up from July due 2 the conflict in the Middle East…so #Covid made my bills sky 🚀 …#Russia / #Ukraine have & now the #Iran conflict…they made a profit of £3.15B in 2025 (up 12.5% from 2024) 🐸☕️
@Keir_Starmer Let’s talk - you just tweet the same 💩 day after day…week after week…you lead the country supposedly…it’s time you admitted failure & resign. 🐸☕️
@MENnewsdesk Let’s talk - ‘how good’….i’d probably ask ‘how good’ were Blair & Bush back in ‘03’ when we all knew they were going into #Iraq for oil not ‘WOMD’…but @AndyBurnhamGM still voted ‘YES’ to dropping bombs on innocent brown women & children in the desert based on lies.🐸☕️
