Crucial, overlooked point - if we get a RN-led government in France, governments with far-right parties can reach a blocking minority in QMV votes in the EU Council. Much bigger blocking potential for EU legislation than the fragmented far-right in the European Parliament.

to elicit a clear set of political priorities for the Union, to be pursued by a a permanent political majority.

Instead, #EuropeanElections2024 reveal a disaggregated bunch of country-by-country results, which has little to do with the EU.

This makes the EU more politically fragmented than it should be.

I'd argue the EU has developed into two almost distinct political bodies - the 'Crisis EU', which is almost purely intergovernmental with a strong EUCO/Council plus Commission, and the 'Regulation/Legislation EU', with a strong Parliament, but which is often less visible.

The closer we get to #EP2024, the clearer it seems that the old #Spitzenkandidaten system has suffered a fatal wound in 2019.

@vonderleyen & the EPP does not commit, the @PES_PSE nominate a political unknown and @RenewEurope a team instead of a single candidate.

Wenn es nicht so traurig wäre, müsste man lachen. Präsident Vucic nimmt Kritik nicht konstruktiv auf, sondern verbreitet Verschwörungstheorien, lässt seine mediale Meute los + bläst zur Treibjagd gegen Andersdenkende. Die Wahlen müssen dringend überprüft werden. 🇪🇺 muss handeln!
