@ineosbritannia Well done Ineos, you've given me huge pleasure this last few weeks. The final prize, however, was not to be. The Kiwis had a marginally better boat and their meteorologists understood the script like they'd written it. Huge admiration for all that was done.
@americascup@EmiratesTeamNZ@LouisVuitton Have to give the Kiwi's full credit. A thoroughly deserved win. Better boat, marginally, and more importantly a better crew. Their reading of the wind shifts and overall understanding of the race track was peerless. Something you'd only expect with local knowledge. Brilliant!
@azure111s@HA11NNH That looks more like primrose. Maybe it's the light. I, many moons ago, had an MGCGT very similar colour to this. Bloody thing was always covered in flies. Yellow attracts the things.
Test pilot George Aird narrowly escapes death by ejecting sideways from an English Electric Lightning F1 aircraft that nosedived in 1962, as a farmer casually watches from his tractor.
The photographer, Jim Mead, took the photo soon after the ejection, and as can be seen, caught the pilot inverted with his parachute still unopened and the Lightning plummeting earthwards close to him.
The tractor driver heard the bang of the ejection seat and is seen after quickly turning around to look at what was going on. The driver was 15 year old Mick Sutterby, who spent that summer working on the airfield. He wasn't posing for the camera. In fact, he was telling the photographer, Jim Mead, to move on, because he shouldn't be there.
Fortunately, the pilot George Aird survived after coming down through a greenhouse roof, breaking both legs. He was unconscious due to the impact of landing and was woken by jets of cold water from the greenhouse's sprinkler system. He later recovered to resume his flying career.
@ineosbritannia Wasn't expecting that scoreline today. Delighted. What a day. Race 5 had a little luck involved but race 6 was a masterclass. Still losing a little in the tacks and gybes though, some of which can be addressed quite simply. Brilliant guys, same again Friday please.
@ineosbritannia@AinslieBen NZ are just able to accelerate quicker after every manoeuvre. The foils appear to have less surface area, less surface area = less drag.
@americascup Every tack and gybe, NZ make gains. GB's look equally slick but the boat doesn't maintain speed like NZ. It'll be all over Friday afternoon, sadly.
@americascup For excellent Semi Final races likely missed by many. GB on top with Italy. Spain unlucky, the only team with two wins but lacklustre in other two races.
