BREAKING: Emotional Plea Emerges Before Tragic Passing of Wajir Elder – Family Cries Foul Over Ambulance Dispute
Wajir—April 28, 2025
A harrowing appeal from Najma Abdi Mohamed Samatar, daughter of the late Mzee Abdi Samatar, has surfaced following the deeply distressing circumstances surrounding her father's final hours.
In a heartfelt WhatsApp message posted on Sunday, April 27th at 11:26 AM, Najma painted a grim picture of an unfolding crisis:
“Hello, I am Najma from Wajir. I have just referred my critically ill father to Nairobi. However, while traveling past Habaswein, a coordinator from Wajir General Hospital, Mr. Maash Billow, contacted us and demanded that the ambulance return to Wajir due to a disagreement with the nurse. My father remains in critical condition. I am alone with him, the nurse, and the driver. The ambulance, registration number 08CG090A, is currently turning back toward Wajir. We urgently need assistance. Please help.” Read part of Najma’s message.
The message was shared hours before Mzee Abdi Mohamed Samatar succumbed to his illness on Monday, April 28th, 2025.
Najma is the daughter of the late Mzee Abdi Samatar. Her mother is the former Nominated MCA Mama Robley Hussein.
Residents of Wajir county and the bereaved family now want the authorities concerned to intervene, hold the officers involved accountable and justice be served to the family of the late Mzee Abdi Samatar.
“While death is a decree of the Almighty and a reality we all must face, the glaring questions surrounding the mismanagement of emergency healthcare services in Wajir County cannot be ignored.” One of the family members said.
“ We call for accountability in a system already marred by delays and bureaucratic blunders.” He added.
Mzee Abdi’s case was not the first and isolated case, several other cases related to ambulance in Wajir county was raised by the residents.
