It’s been nearly a week since the BBC exposed evidence that Georgian Dream used a chemical agent on protesters. GD now claims it was only CS gas, which doesn’t align with the long-term health damage, leaked documents, or whistleblower testimony.

Tonight, Georgians demand an international investigation.

Irakli Kobakhidze says there will be punishment “with the full severity of the law” for anyone whose deliberate actions are deemed to have “severely damaged Georgia’s international image and reputation.” He is referring to the new investigation launched by the State Security Service, which is now prosecuting those featured in BBC Eye’s investigation exposing the GD regime’s use of chemical agents to disperse #GeorgiaProtests.

And while they are currently targeting the interviewees of the BBC film, there is a very real chance that they will eventually go after anyone who dares to expose their wrongdoing on the international stage, including those of us reporting actively on X or contributing to international media.

I’ve been reporting from the ground for 10 years, and I’ve never seen anything even close to what I witnessed today and yesterday.

This feels like a turning point in #GeorgiaProtests. I have never seen the Georgian people so unyielding. Just last week, I wrote that the smaller crowds in the streets compared to spring meant nothing — except that the anger hadn’t gone anywhere. Instead, it was simmering, growing stronger, waiting for the regime’s next mistake to erupt with even greater force.

Today’s riot was dispersed so many times, in such brutal ways, that I’ve lost count. So many people were bloodied. So many were detained.

Yet even now, Rustaveli Avenue is filled with people — beaten, bruised, exhausted, disappointed, and fiercely angry — but still holding EU flags with pride. Because we believe, that Europe is our home, and we will not surrender it at any cost.

Help us. Don’t let us lose this country to the Russians. No one has fought harder for it than we have.
