@CentenaryBank's Green Commitment
Ms. Margaret, General Manager for Corporate Communications and Marketing at Centenary Bank, underscored the institution’s resolve to weave environmental stewardship into the very fabric of its ESG strategy.
She revealed that the bank is charting a course toward a 20% reduction in its carbon footprint within five years, while simultaneously fortifying its frameworks for climate‑risk management, advancing circular waste practices, and innovating climate‑friendly financial products.
Beyond environmental metrics, Ms. Margaret emphasized that sustainable community development remains a cornerstone priority — with initiatives designed to uplift livelihoods, bolster food security, and enhance household incomes.
She highlighted the power of partnerships in driving environmental action, citing Centenary Bank’s collaboration with Good Forests Foundation Uganda, the Catholic Church, the Bank of Uganda, and the Uganda Bankers Association.
“We have moved from simply planting trees to growing trees; recognising that tree growing represents a deeper, longer‑term commitment to nurturing a healthier environment.”
Her call was clear: stakeholders must rise to the mantle of leadership in greening Uganda; from bustling urban centres to rural communities. The Cente Green Programme stands as a pledge of environmental guardianship, a promise to restore creation, and a vision of sustainability for generations yet to come.

“Planting trees is not just an act of charity, but of responsibility. We must nurture what we plant; watering them so they withstand the dry seasons. And when one tree is cut, let five more be raised in its place.” The Lord Bishop

Launch of the Cente Green Programme happening now at Centenary Bank, Mapeera House
Under the theme “Growing Trees, Transforming Lives, Restoring Creation”, a transformative partnership has been unveiled between Good Forests Foundation Uganda (GFU), Centenary Bank, and the Catholic Church.
This initiative is more than a tree‑planting campaign, it is a movement to restore degraded landscapes and nurture resilient ecosystems across Uganda. In its first phase, the programme will collaborate with 12 Catholic dioceses: Kasese, Fort Portal, Kiyinda‑Mityana, Masaka, Mbarara, Kabale, Jinja, Tororo, Arua, Nebbi, Moroto, and Kotido.
Key highlights:
- Indigenous tree species will be prioritized, ensuring ecological balance and cultural heritage preservation.
- Woodlots will be established on diocesan lands, creating sustainable green spaces.
- The focus is on tree growth; cultivating healthy forests that deliver long‑term environmental, social, and economic benefits.
This collaboration embodies a shared vision: faith communities, financial institutions, and conservationists working hand in hand to restore creation and secure a greener future for generations to come.
