As my wont , chat led me to her telling me about her married daughter—a mother of two—had climbed Mount Everest. I had to ask her name: Suvidha Kadlag, Google tells me of her being Marathi mountaineer from Maharashtra who summited Everest on 17 May 2023.

Whenever Lord Ganesha is invoked, I remember Shahapurkar from Government Colony, Bandra, and the gentleman from King’s Circle—both of whom radiated devotion to and dedication toward Lord Ganesha:

I also remember someone who once asked me to recite:

I recited the second verse without ever knowing its meaning. It was only after ChatGPT came along that I finally understood it.

What determines our quality of life?( My take )
1.The distance between home and work
2. How much you move your body
3. Whether you can afford groceries based on nutritional value, not just price
4. What you feed your mind daily
5. Freedom from financial stress
6. Not needing medication just to maintain your health
7. Meaningful work that satisfies you and benefits others
8. Remain unprovoked, yet introspective, in response to others’ success, criticism, or behavior towards you

What Has Freedom Become for Many of India’s Educated and Gainfully Employed?

Freedom to pretend.
Freedom to preach principles we seldom practise.
Freedom to exaggerate the knowledge we possess.
Freedom to flaunt our degrees as proof of wisdom.
Freedom to invoke the names of powerful people.
Freedom to boast about how influential, resourceful and well-connected we are—
and ultimately, to use it all
for our own personal benefit.

Perhaps this is not freedom at all.

It is privilege mistaken for merit,
self-interest disguised as ambition,
and selfishness wrapped in respectability.
