My #TokStori with President @BarackObama —
Sharing #Democracy in the context of #SolomonIslands & #Melanesia - “We’ve reached a generational tipping point. We’ve been struggling to paddle two canoes. To defend, protect and strengthen Democracy, we now must reengineer one canoe”

I see now why my #kastomkeeper elder Damilea said; “don’t cry too much for our sinking islands - we will survive it cos our connection (through kastom) is still strong.
Instead, cry for “them”…
Praying for #Canada’s flora & fauna, it’s people (#indigenous and non) & the world
Between NYC in wildfire smoke and this in PR, it bears repeating how unprepared we are for the climate crisis.
We must adapt our food systems, energy grids, infrastructure, healthcare, etc ASAP to prepare for what’s to come and catch up to what is already here. #GreenNewDeal 🌱
#TokSavve it’s been a minute!
Past 2 weeks, I was privileged to be part of the pilot of #KastomSkul in #Vanuatu. Learning from the pawaful Hilda Lini and working together with fellow guardians to #decolonize and repatriate our #indigenous#Melanesian leadership values and way.
How to mourn a forest: a lesson from West Papua –
The Marind people believe that the forest has a living spirit, and when a tree is cut down, its spirit roams until it finds a new home.

@LeinaBeina@MelanesianWomen Hey susa, I just flew back today from Vila! We’re you there? Ah hope to be back soon! Yesss this is the Obama Leaders program for Asia-Pacific 😍 I was in the Obama Scholars program.
They say you’ve not “been” to #Rennell if you haven’t reached the Lake. They are not lying.
Lake #Tegano [Mugaba] boasts 15,500 hectares of water. It’s the largest insular freshwater #lake in the Pacific.
Truly majestic! Such a privilege to bask in her glory.

“This is our home, it’s disappearing, and nothing’s been spoken about it.” #ECFellow@Millicent_Barty serves as a guide in the film "A Disappearing World," speaking with her fellow Solomon Islanders who are on the front lines of climate change. Watch here: https://t.co/dVoTeaPpaL
My hapi ples [#happyplace] will always be anywhere I am #unlearning, #relearning and #learning about our traditional narratives/perspectives as people-as-place.
I hope life takes you to your hapi ples often🙏🏽✨

Career Milestone: Today I start as the Editor @RNZPacific. So many people to thank for helping me throughout my career. From my humble beginnings in Solomon Islands to becoming the first Pacific import at RNZ International–now RNZ Pacific. To God be the glory. #PacificProud
Got gifted a ‘Pariu’ (basket) as a token of appreciation for my personal appeal to support our Makira-Ulawa athletes with 7 passports, shoes and food to compete in QLD. Raised $12,000.
They fly out tomorrow all equipped with shoes too! Tankio rafaera/Tagio those who donated! 🙏🏽
For you will learn of my #ancestors and my #indigenous place through my body, my mind and my #spirit.
My #traditionaltattoo journey began in 2017. Timing is everything in this.
I’m also trypanophobic - but when something is this meaningful, pain and fear must be overcome. 🙏🏽🇸🇧
I don’t believe our indigenous wisdom/knowledge can be “lost”. How can we lose something that is inherent?
The only thing we’ve “lost” is our way to connect with it and practice. We stand to lose further when we lose our physical lands/islands that are necessary for connection.
Every milestone achievement calls for engraving permanent traditional ornaments of my blood line. Continuing my ‘maore-ni-poro’ journey - Owa Raha (Santa Ana, Makira). A painful 6hrs but nothing compared to what my great grandmother would’ve endured.
