A huge congrats to @ClereIsabella for submitting her MSc thesis on the prevalence of microplastic ingestion on commercial and farm reared fish in NZ. Watch this space for the surprising findings! @otago@VKomyakova13 Excited to see where your research takes you!
Woop! congrats to two of my MSc students for submitting their theses @milliemannering and @BradLamont4 Super proud of the huge effort you've both put in to produce some pretty cool research on the behaviour and fitness of coral reef fish exposed to microplastics 👏👏 @otago
PLASTIC IS NOT FANTASTIC!! Look at all the #rubbish Zac Penman and I found during a dive in #LakeWanaka. Recognise some of your #plastic??
Let's think about what we use and where it ends up 💙 @lakewanaka_nz
Hydrodynamic starvation - an experimentally supported mechanism of starvation in larval fishes!!
Super interesting to understand more about these extreme mortality rates 🔍🐠
More than 99% of marine larval fishes die within days of hatching. Why? Fluid physics at small scales! Closing the open mouths reverses the flow that brought food in, immediately expelling it!

Huge thanks to @LIRFF and the John and Laurine Proud Foundation for supporting our research! @milliemannering@BradLamont4@TeresaMorrell Very pleased to have the opportunity to introduce @otago MSc students to life in the Tropics at #LizardIsland
