Loving the coronation concert. But why so many American singers? Surely we could club together Brit and commonwealth performers to fill the whole event?
@RestIsPolitics@campbellclaret@RoryStewartUK The coronation has celebrated the arts and yet as a history PhD student I am looking at a vanishing job market in the arts + academia. + V. limited funds is excl. talent from diverse backgrounds. What’s the logic of defunding the arts? our PMs all did arts or social sciences!
This is one of the most bizarre political photos I’ve ever seen.
This is the British Home Secretary in apparent ecstasy at the building of detention centers in Rwanda where she dreams of sending desperate people.
This is now considered normal?
I have been having an unbelievable time in Aotearoa researching for my PhD - including seeing my face on posters around Otago University campus, promoting a seminar I am running this Wednesday. #research#chaseahrc#kentuniversity
@Conservatives You’ve been in power and totally failed to solve the problem - in fact you’ve made it worse! Blaming other people not in power is not hugely convincing

@Farradeh5 Manifest destiny is basically just replaced by vanishing race narratives and then by the false idea that there are no native people left. Jean o Brien wrote a book called firsting and lasting which discusses it I think
@DCBMEP your only defense is - well yes we’re incompetent and have destabilized the country but it’s possible the other guys might be the same( when their policies and career history’s clearly show they are not)
@Farradeh5 There’s certainly indigenous authors who have pointed this out. Linda smith is a big one. Tuck and yang, probably fixico - my brains a bit dead on a Friday @DFStirrup will have some ideas :)
@Farradeh5 White savior is definitely used. And also talking more broadly about those as ‘vanishing race’ narratives - searching that might find you more. Also it’s all wrapped up in manifest destiny
