Millennial here. Was a Spirit Airlines Captain making 300k (until May 2nd). When I was grinding, making 20k as a CFI, I’d eat a $1 slice of pizza and pack meals too. At that time, you could still buy a house for 100k and the American dream was very much obtainable. A lot of people think the situation is hopeless now and I think that’s why they splurg on eating out because at least that’s one thing they can have that’s a “luxury.”

@FreeTalkLive @LPNational Similarly, COVID accelerated the K shaped economy and our passengers could no longer afford it. Also, we were about to exit bankruptcy but the Iran conflict caused our fuel prices to double which the airline did not have liquidity for in the exit plan.

11 year Spirit Captain here. Covid, Biden DOJ blocking the JetBlue merger, fuel prices (caused by war), Pratt and Whitney engine problems, and a touch of bad management (not enough to destroy this airline) are the cause. The airline has never had a fatality in our 43 year history and forced the majors to reduce fairs bigly on many routes. Like the product or not, Spirit has been a plus in the industry. The government is largely responsible for what’s happpening and they should fix it (not a puritan libertarian position, I know).
