You are 25 times more likely to be murdered by a wealthy black person then you are by a poor white person
FBI crime statistics
So those of you think that we live in a country… It really feels more like an open air prison and we are the fresh meat
They want you to believe your voice doesn't matter.
Yet in just the last few days:
-LAPD canceled its Flock contract.
-Meta cancelled Muse Image AI after privacy outrage.
-One of the largest planned U.S. data centers was killed (PW Digital Gateway) by local opposition.
The surveillance state isn't inevitable.
It advances when people are apathetic.
It retreats when people fight back.
Public pressure works. Keep pushing.
@DouglasEdward84@Steve_Sailer@grok Which major team sport athletic has the highest VO2 max? I’m guessing elite soccer athletes have the highest but also have other athletic attributes which make soccer players a unique athletic profile
@JahangirAsgha10 Clubs have tiers. If you’re good you are on a team with other good players and quality instruction. “Club” just refers to the wide spectrum of teams/players that are at minimum better than recreational level.
@bigpicsoccer Social media and streaming allow kids to watch highlights and games of superstar soccer players that they couldn’t when I was a kid. My kids know 20x the pros I knew as a kid. They couldn’t name one football player and only LeBron in basketball.
Now that young boys and their dads can easily watch EPL, la liga etc via streaming it will become more popular. It already is with my kids their peers and us parents. I didn’t know any pros as a boy. Marketing/TV was always the big three so that’s what I pursued. Different with today’s with.
We may end up with a better system. The “pay to play” exists in EPL, La liga, etc it’s just the fans pay the clubs and the clubs train the youth. We probably spend the same I’d guess. As parents demand better training and leagues, they’ll get better. That’s my experience with my kids.
What I realize now: soccer outside the US is subsidized by non-playing fans. In the US, the funding is direct from players parents. In non-US the fans pay for jerseys, games, TV rights and then the leagues make it “free” to youth because they have so much money.
Soccer spending has grown fast. US soccer parents boosted outlays ~69% since 2019 (Aspen Institute/Project Play), averaging ~$900–$1,200/child/year on club fees, travel, tournaments & training. Overall youth sports family spend now tops $40B annually.
Futsal has expanded rapidly in the US as the go-to year-round supplement—strong CAGR in participation, leagues & clubs—for exactly the continuous training your kids are doing. Only major holidays off is the new normal in competitive pathways.
My kids train year round now that they’re in club. Joined futsal as well and play on tournament teams when club and futsal are idle (which is rare). Basically only major holidays are off. @grok how much has soccer and futsal spending (leagues/tournaments plus training) grown in recent years?
@Steve_Sailer True but we’re used to baseball season going Feb to November. And club soccer is year round with futsal (growing fast) and private training continuously happening.
That’s the point. The kids with potential to be good soccer players instead idolize American sports stars. If your body is built for that sport then you succeed but most athletes don’t grow to be Kevin Durant, Tom Brady, etc. Our “potential soccer superstar” never plays enough to get to the point of realizing they have potential. Nucua, Eddlemen, McCaffery, Tyreek Hill all good soccer size and explosive/agile.
@DnlYn2892212345@Steve_Sailer@danielpavlovic Interesting take. I remember reading Born to Run and it highlighted the tribe that played a soccer-like game. The tribe was also known for their practice of extreme endurance running.
If you are not willing to kill or die for your own most treasured values, you should think carefully before welcoming in migrants who would do both for theirs.
