Michigan’s May 2026 jobs report paints a troubling picture.

📊 249,000 Michiganders are unemployed.
📈 Michigan’s unemployment rate remains 5.0%, well above the U.S. average of 4.3%.
⏳ Our state has now been stuck at 5.0% for six consecutive months.

Behind every statistic is a family struggling with rising grocery prices, housing costs, utilities, insurance, and property taxes while searching for stable employment.

Michigan has incredible potential. The question is: Why are nearly a quarter of a million residents still looking for work while so many communities continue to struggle?

The numbers deserve attention and so do the people behind them.

@RepHaleyStevens @RepHaleyStevens if I drive across the border to Indiana from Michigan, I can get gas 0.70 per gallon cheaper. Michigan's gas tax is a whopping 52 cents per gallon, up from 31 cents. Implemented Jan 1, 2026.
