@RllyTwitch My motto is to try to make something interesting or make the other person I’m RPing with smile on the other side. If chatters enjoy it they get to enjoy it. If the person on the other side doesn’t like it then I’ll find someone else to RP with. Too exhausting to cater otherwise.
@RllyTwitch I wish I could tell you not to listen to them. Mina does nothing but give to people and try to always be nice and hear anyone—even the villains out in RP. Still get flamed and hated for it. You can never win with everyone is what I’ve found out. Shelly is great and you are too.
On one hand I want to blast this game for trying to advertise itself as a farming game. On the other hand, I loved this story so much I can't stop talking about it with friends.
That's all I have to say about Harvestella.
So I imagine the great tragedy with this game is most people will quit well before the story gets to where it is very fascinating. The farming is lackluster, the combat is... okay, the best aspect of the game doesn't show itself until ehhh depending on your speed 20 hours in.
And the story doesn't kick off immediately. I would say the first fifth of the game is spent--probably with you farming and struggling with the hours in the day--going to a town, finding their struggle, doing a dungeon, go next. It's not an exciting setup.
I beat Harvestella, now to talk about it and dump all my feelings for this game here so I can put it to rest in my mind. First of all, wow is Harvestella not a farming experience one would expect it to be.
The proof about it is really that once you beat the game, the farming aspect is all that remains and there's no real reason to continue it. I'm saying all this negative stuff because the best part of the game is what I really don't want to spoil, the awesome story.
There's no gifting, money just means you can grow more crops/have more animals, cooking food actually makes the food worth less and is only used to power yourself up in combat (I mostly survived off of just eating food from wild plants).
...the farming seemed at odds with playing the best part of the game--the story. Every hour I spent working on my crops was time spent away from the story. And what was the crops doing for me? Nothing. Aside from checkbox marking to unlock a job it didn't need to be done.
What makes it hard for me to put Harvestella in this group is it feels more like the farming is the gimmick. You could easily envision a version of this game where the farming element is removed. I beat the game while trying to do the farming element at the same time but...
We have your hardcore farming simulators where the game is just 100% farming but I would say the major market of farming games falls into the farming + gimmick category. Gimmicks range from doing festivals, dating sim, dungeon crawling, crafting, etc.
By that I mean, this game is a JRPG first. So before I get into that, let's talk about the farming element because I am sure people are curious why a game that advertises itself to be a farming game is lacking. There are several types of farming games out there.
8/25/22 Gambit - my first and only dog. Helped me get over my fears and had never ending love for people. Couldn’t have owned a sweeter pup. I’ll miss him.
