3 things that came out of this that are significant:

1. The US policy and think tank community went around for years shrugging this off as a "conspiracy theory" knowing full well it was true. The dishonesty and confirmation bias that plagues D.C. is a case study on its own.

2. It appears that a consensus has emerged within the US strategic policy circles on their vision for Pakistan: A compliant military dictatorship that delivers on short-term US political and security interests over long term development interests of 250 million people of Pakistan.

There is a reason why Trump admin not only towed but doubled down on Biden's policy to work with a military dictator in Pakistan while looking away from the brutal persecution, mass electoral rigging, and imprisonment of former PM Imran Khan.

3. Pakistan's sovereignty and independence is questionable.

Once this latest facade of stability under a military dictator is gone, which it soon will, I hope there is something left of Pakistan to save.

🇵🇰 The man Khan fired is now running Pakistan's nukes.

Think about that for a second. Munir was sacked by Khan in 2019 after just eight months as ISI chief. Eight months. Khan threw him out after he went to Tehran with the Pakistani delegation and blew up the room, went completely off the script the government had agreed on internally, used language with Iranian officials that had no business being used, and actively wrecked what could have been a genuine step toward better Pakistan-Iran ties. Iran complained directly to Khan. Khan fired him.

That same man now controls 170 nuclear warheads with zero institutional checks left standing.

What happened between getting fired and getting the keys is the part that should make every Pakistani furious. After the sacking, Munir allegedly flew to London and sat down with Nawaz Sharif, who was conveniently living in self imposed exile at the time. Khan called it the London Plan. The deal as Khan described it was straightforward, Munir gets army chief, Khan's government gets taken apart, his party gets destroyed, the judiciary plays along. Sounds insane until you watch it happen exactly like that, step by step, over the next three years.

Munir became army chief in November 2022 in a process multiple reports said involved heavy consultations with the same Nawaz Sharif sitting in London. Within months Khan was arrested. Shariar waltzed back into Pakistan in October 2023 and had most of his convictions vacated almost overnight. By February 2024 his brother was prime minister, the elections were rigged openly and Washington and Brussels said nothing.

Then Munir really got to work. He promoted himself to Field Marshal, invented a brand new title of Chief of Defence Forces, and passed the 27th Constitutional Amendment scrapping the Nuclear Command Authority that had existed since 2000. That authority existed for one reason, to make sure no single person could ever make a nuclear decision alone. It required the prime minister, the joint chiefs, the service chiefs, all in the room. All of that is now gone. Munir replaced it with the National Strategic Command, headed by himself, answerable to nobody above him. The prime minister's only remaining role is to appoint people Munir recommends.

Pakistan has 170 nuclear warheads. Every single one of them now answers to one man.

Khan, the man who saw all of this coming and tried to stop it, has been rotting in a cell for nearly 3 years. And Munir gets called "my favorite Field Marshal" by Trump.

اگر میر عُثمان علیخان نے پاکستان چلانے کے لئیے پیسے نہ دئیے ہوتے قائدِ اعظم کو تو شاید جو مشکلات پاکستان کو ہوتیں وہ کوئ سوچ بھی نہیں سکتا تھا۔ ہر خاندان نے پاکستان بننے کے لئیے قُربانیاں دیں اور بہت کم تھے جنھوں نے پاکستان چلانے کے لیئے قُربانیاں دیں۔

میں اُن میروں میں سے ہوں۔ میرا خاندان وہ خاندان ہے۔

میرے اندر سیّد کا خون ہے۔ نجیب الطرفین سیّد کا خون اور جب ایک سیّد دوسرے سیّد کو مُلک چھوڑنے کا کہے تو خون کھولتا ہے۔

یہ میرا مُلک ہے۔ میری جان اس پر قُربان۔ میری اولاد اُس پر قٗربان۔ میرا پاکستان کے علاوہ کُچھ نہیں۔ 64 مُمالک گھومنے اور 5 مُمالک میں رہنے کے بعد خوشی سے ادھیڑ عمر میں پاکستان خاندان اور بوڑھے والدین کو لیکر آیا ہوں۔ یہاں دفن ہونے کے لیئے۔

ایران میرا مُلک نہیں۔ فلسطین بھی میرا مُلک نہیں۔ فقط پاکستان میرا مُلک ہے۔ اور میں اگر فلسطین اور ایران کے لئیے آواز اُٹھاتا ہوں تو اپنے سیّد خون کا حق ادا کرتا ہوں۔ بنا فرقہ واریت کے کیونکہ فلسطین اور ایران میرے لئیے فقط مسلمان ہیں۔ نہ شیعہ نہ سُنّی۔ لعنت ہے فرقہ واریت پر۔

کیوں ایران جاؤں۔ کیوں ؟ اُسی مُلک میں رہونگا۔ یہیں مرونگا اور اسی مُلک کے جھنڈے میں لپٹے جنازے میں کفن سمیت دفن ہونگا۔ یہ میرا مُلک ہے۔ کسی کا کوئ حق نہیں بنتا چاہے وہ کسی عہدے پر فائز ہوکہ وہ مجھے کہے کہ مُلک چھوڑ کر چلا جاؤں۔

میں مسلمانوں کے لیئے آواز اُٹھاتا ہوں۔ تو اُس لحاظ سے تو کہنا چاہئے تھا کہ کعبہ چلے جاؤ اگر مسلمانوں کے لئیے آواز اُٹھانا ہے تو۔ کعبہ بھی جاکر واپس پاکستان ہی آتا کیونکہ سودی عرب بھی میرا ملک نہیں۔ نسبت وہیں سے ہے مگر خاک یہیں پاکستان کی ہے۔ اگر حجاز جیسی مقدس زمین پر بھی میں پاکستان میں دفن ہونے پر ترجیح دیتا ہوں تو یقیناً میرا عشق پاکستان ہے اور میرا عقیدہ اسلام۔

نہ ایران جاؤں گا نہ سعودی نہ قطر نہ ملائیشیا۔

پاکستان میرا مُلک ہے۔ میرا سانس ہے۔ میری روح ہے۔ گولی مار دیں اور لاش پھر کسی اور ملک بھیج دیں ورنہ پاکستان کے علاوہ کہیں نہیں جاؤں گا اور ایران اور فلسطین کے لئیے بھی آواز اُٹھاتا رہوں گا۔
