It may be tempting to think that we can achieve mental wellness all on our own, without the help or validation of others. But research shows that mental wellness is profoundly influenced by affection, affiliation, a sense of belonging and connection with others.
Research shows that having a sense of purpose actually relates to living a longer, happier life. When we feel we are sharing our unique gifts with others we feel useful, appreciated, validated, and meaningful.
Stress often leads to bad food choices and poor sleep habits, which lead to internal stress. When we eat things like white flour, sugar, and fried foods we actually increase inflammation and stress hormone production.
I truly believe that if your spirit is broken, and if your connection to yourself and your values has been shaken, you can become ill even if you're eating the right foods, taking the right supplements, and moving.
