The Zero Tolerance policy reminds me of our justice system in America. We throw "criminals" into cells without providing any education that would address their behavior. We then put them back into society and many of them commit the crimes again. #altrted#standuptobullying
I believe that the Zero Tolerance policy has not worked because we are not taking the time to teach our students WHY their actions were hurtful or wrong. Instead, we are just punishing them which does not actually address the issue. #altrted#standuptobullying
As a teacher, I really emphasize perspective. It is imperative that students understand how their words can impact another person and not to act out of anger. #altrted#standuptobullying
"Getting back" at someone relates to HIB because there is a difference in power. It implies that you will take someone's power away to gain your own power in the situation. #altrted#standuptobullying
I am an avid google user and that is my main source of communication with parents. I constantly send out google invites and documents as well as emails. In the future, I need to find a way to communicate with all parents because some do not have gmail accounts. #altrt#edtech
Sometimes it is difficult to stay on top of technology especially because I do not use technology often in my personal life. However, it is beneficial because Schoology in particular keeps me very organized. #altrt#edtech
I've learned a lot with Schoology and everything that it has to offer. My colleagues also introduced me to Newsela which help myself and the ELA teacher align content. Twitter also helps a lot! #altrt#edtech
My 6th grade team uses Schoology to collaborate with each other. We are able to see each other posts, comment on them, and see student comments. #altrt#edtech
To overcome this lack of access, I make sure that any projects that I assign are done in class so that the students can use their chrome books. I never want my students to feel excluded or feel bad about not having internet/computer access. #altrt#edtech
One significant barrier that impacts my students is a lack of access to either a computer or internet. Most of my students are from low income families and they cannot afford them so completing projects at home becomes difficult. #altrt#edtech
I love using technology in my classroom! We are fortunate enough to have access to chrome books which my students use for project research, writing essays, and independently watching video clips related to content. #altrt#edtech
You know #MADPD is almost here, right?? And this year we have student voice for you! Three of my graduating Ss will be an #ELL Student Panel on Sunday May 6th @ 8pm ET. Watch link: https://t.co/Tbo7iKikpI Join us!
I often catch myself forgetting that not all of my ELL students are Spanish speakers and I have to be cognizant of that. In fact, I have many Turkish speakers and I have to include their needs into my instruction as well #altrted#ELL

If we're serious about building grit in students, we have to give them opportunities to fail and stop penalizing them for not learning it the first time. We have to make it about learning, not the grade. #Eduinfluence#tlap#LeadLAP#caedchat#GrowthMindset
