Letting Go: A Zen Story
Two Zen monks were travelling together when they came to a river with a strong current. As they were preparing to cross, they saw a woman struggling to get across. One monk, without hesitation, carried her on his back and helped her to the other side.
After safely reaching the other bank, the monk set the woman down, and she went on her way. The two monks continued their journey in silence. Hours later, the second monk, unable to hold his silence any longer, spoke up. “Brother, our teachings tell us not to touch women. Why did you carry her?”
The first monk replied, “I set her down on the riverbank hours ago. Why are you still carrying her?”
This Zen story reminds us of the importance of letting go and not allowing our Mind to attach to past actions or worries. Holding onto these thoughts can burden us, rather than the initial act itself. By releasing these attachments, we can find true peace and tranquillity. Let go, and set the mind free.
