Exotrax について、世の中にはほとんど情報がない。

リリースされたトラックもなければ、共有されたサンプルもない。
ストリーミングできるものもなく、私たちが耳にするものは何一つなく、AIの回答もない。

HIYOSHI

Mindgamesのresident ambient DJを務めるHiyoshi。

20年以上に渡って、彼は優雅なアンビエントミュージックのセレクションで、朝のフロアの目覚めを彩って来た。開催の会場が和田峠、川場、苗場、そして現在の宝台樹へと移り変わっても、朝起きて、キャンプの時間を楽しんだり、コーヒーを飲みながら散歩したりしながらHiyoshiの音楽に耳を傾けることはLabyrinthの常連の皆さんにとっては朝のお決まりと言えるでしょう。

HiyoshiのDJセットは90年代のIshiqやPubといったクラシックから、近年のモダンな最新作までをカバーし、多様な時代のチルド／ダウンビート・ミュージックを網羅している。まさにアンビエント音楽の生き字引、巨大なライブラリーそのものだ。

特に昨年のラビリンスでのセットは宝石のように美しく、MindgamesのSoundCloudで是非聴いて欲しい。

Hiyoshi is the Mindgames resident ambient dj.

For over 20 years now, Hiyoshi has been waking up the floor with his gentle ambient selections. Whatever venue we have used—from Wada Touge and Kawaba to Naeba and now Hodaigi—hearing the sounds of Hiyoshi from your tent and when enjoying the first coffee of the day is a Labyrinth tradition for the regulars.

A Hiyoshi set always spans many eras of chilled and downbeat music, from classic Ishq and Pub of the 90's to the latest productions of today. He is walking encyclopedia and library of ambient music.

His set from last year's Labyrinth is a beautiful gem and can be found on the Mindgames Soundcloud, along with many others from him.

Mindgamesにとってresident DJの存在は重要で、毎年開催されるフェスティバルを通して、アーティストとしてそこに集うオーディエンスと信頼関係を築き、それがコミュニティの礎となっている。

私たちはコンセプトとしてインターナショナルとローカル(国内)、双方のresident DJを抱えており、前者はDonato DozzyとPeter Van Hoesen、後者は20年以上もこの場に立ち続けているSoとHiyoshiであり、Soはダンスミュージックを、Hiyoshiはアンビエントミュージックをそれぞれ担っている。

ダンスミュージックを担当するSoは繊細な選曲とミックス、そこから生まれる丁寧な展開作りにおいてフロアからの信頼度が高く、また時間帯や状況に応じて自身の役割を理解したストーリーを描く柔軟さを持ち合わせており、The Labyrinth以外にもParallel、Draaimolen、Waking Life等、海外の野外フェスティバルからのオファーが絶えない。

特にMindgamesのSoundCloudアカウントからリリースされたThe Labyrinth 2024年のレコーディングセットは素晴らしく、その片鱗を垣間見ることができるので是非聴いて欲しい。

長年に渡ってSoは午後の早い時間に緩やかにエネルギーを高めて行くスタイルがその代名詞でもあったが、今年は新たな挑戦として午後のハウスグルーブからテクノへとトランジションしていく、サンセットから夜の帳が下りる1日の中でも重要な役割を担う。

The concept of resident dj’s—both local and international—is important to us. It allows artists to develop deep personal connections with the event and everyone who comes to it. On the local side, we have two resident dj’s, one covering dance music, So, and the other ambient music, Hiyoshi.

So is the Mindgames resident dj focusing on the floor. He is known for his delicate selection and careful sequencing to match the spirit of the event, which makes him particularily well suited for playing outdoor festivals. Beyond Labyrinth, he is a frequent guest at many festivals outside of Japan, such as Parallel, Draimollen, and Waking Life.

We love the recording of his Labyrinth 2024 set, so we made that one available to hear on the Mindgames Soundcloud.

His special niche at Labyrinth has been the early afternoon set, where he gently brings the energy up, but this year we have a new challenge him, transitioning the day from house grooves in the afternoon to the techno sounds of the night.

DJ RED

ローマテクノは歴史と伝統があり、そこにいる多くのレジェンドの中でもDJ Redは一際華やかな存在感を放っている。

90年代初頭、Lory Dに代表されるようなアンダーグラウンドの人物たちに導かれ、ローマテクノは独自のルーツの下誕生した。当時の生々しいカウンターカルチャー的エネルギーを体現すると同時に、1970年代のプログレッシブ・ロックにおける電子音楽の実験精神をも取り込み、その影響は今日に至るまで響き続けている。

1996年にシーンの象徴的なクラブGoa Clubが誕生し、レジデントDJとなったDJ Redは、以後Berghain、Tresor、De Schoolといったクラブや、Dekmantel、Terraforma、Waking Lifeといったフェスティバルに出演し続けることで、シーンのパイオニアでありグランダムとしての地位を確立した。

彼女のサウンドは、ダークで内省的、ヒプノティックでありながらもエネルギーそのもので、感情を包み込む。それは近年もイタリアンテクノを代表するスタイルとなっている。DJ Redはヴァイナルにこだわり、テクノとエレクトロの歴史を縦断する優雅なレコードセレクションは、何十年にも及ぶ彼女の研究と実践の成果と言えるだろう。

そして今回、彼女がそのレコードコレクションを携えて初めて日本でプレイすることを、私たちはとても楽しみにしており、デビューにふさわしいスロットを用意して歓迎したい。

Roman techno is a powerful tradition, full of history and legendary figures, and the colorful DJ Red is one of its cornerstones.

Emerging as a distinct sound in the early 90’s led by underground figures such as Lory D, Roman techno embraced the raw counter-cultural energy of the day. It also reached back to the electronic experiments of 1970’s progressive rock, an influence which continues to resonate to this day.

In 1996, the iconic Goa Club was established, and from this hub DJ Red—one of its core residents—helped push the next stage of techno’s development in Rome. From her Goa Club residency and clubs such as Berghain, Tresor, and De School to festivals such as Dekmantel, Terraforma, and Waking Life, DJ Red has proven herself as the Grand Dame of the Roman techno scene.

Her sound wraps raw energy, dark introspection, and heartfelt emotions around a hypnotic core, a style that has come to characterize the best of techno from Italy. She remains committed to playing vinyl, and her elegant record selection covering the history of techno and electro is built on decades of research and practice.

We are excited to welcome DJ Red with all her records to play in Japan for the first time, and we have the perfect spot in the timetable for her debut.

KANGDING RAY

Kangding Rayは2022年に自身のアルバムUltrachromaをリリースし、同年The Labyrinthでlive setを披露したが、その際に私たちはこのような紹介をした。「“Ultrachroma”は、音楽と色彩、そして音についての最高峰の芸術的声明であり、既存のジャンルを超越する作品だ。このサウンドの色彩がLabyrinthのサウンドシステムから溢れ出で、フロアは衝撃を受けるだろう。」

そして、実際に私たちは衝撃を受けた。あの瞬間の出来事は今でも鮮明に思い出され、ティピとスピーカーが優しい雨の中でまるで花のように輝き、雨粒に反射する色彩、スピーカーから溢れ出る音の色彩、そしてKangding Ray本人がそれを感情を持って奏でていた様子は記憶に刻まれている。

プロデューサーとしてもライブアクトとしても、Kangding Rayは他に類を見ない精密さをもって音を扱うが、今やその能力はDJとしても突出したものになっている。DJとしてのKangding Rayは、深い音楽的意図をもって幅広い音域でサウンドシステムを鳴らす。最も抽象的なブレイクビーツから高揚感あふれるサイケデリックな音まで、本来であれば遠く離れた音を繋ぎ合わせる天才である。さらに、ベルリンを拠点としたレーベルaraのキュレーターとして、彼は若い世代のアーティストたちを多方面で支え、深く関わっている。

今回Kangding RayはThe Labyrinthで初めてDJとしてプレイする。渦を巻くように広がる音の奔流に身を委ねよう。

When we announced Kangding Ray to perform his new Ultrachroma album live at the Labyrinth 2022, we wrote: “Ultrachroma is a supreme artistic statement about music and color and sound that transcends established genres. I think people are going to be shocked hearing these sonic colors pouring out of the Labyrinth sound system.

And shocked we were. I still vividly remember that moment—the tipi and speakers lit up like flowers in a gentle rain, colors bouncing off raindrops, sonics colors cascading from the speakers —and Kangding Ray putting on a masterclass in sound design and emotion.

As a producer and as a live act, Kangding Ray brings a precision to sound that is unmatched. But he has become more than a producer. He has also become a fascinating dj.

As a dj he brings deep musical intent, covering a broader range of sounds than most dj’s dare, finding threads that connect sounds far apart, from the most abstract breaks to high-energy psychedelic sounds. And as the curator behind the brilliant Berlin-based label, ara, he is deeply connected to a young generation of artists he is supporting on many levels, which then gets reflected in his dj’ing.

Expect wide spinning vortices of sound as Kangding Ray plays as a dj for the Labyrinth for the first time.

PETER VAN HOESEN

ここ数年で更なる壮大な成長を遂げるPeter Van Hoesen。

昨年、Peter は Atom™ とともに SYNC. として Labyrinth のクロージングを飾り、7時間に及ぶライブセットはまさに歴史に残る圧巻のプレイだったことは記憶に刻まれている。あの日、Peter と Atom™ が見せてくれたのは、二人の異なる才能が一つの意識の元プレイするという新たな可能性を大いに示唆した。

今年の春に開催されたBalanceでも、再びPeter がクロージングを担当。今度はDJセットでオーディエンスの「もっと聴きたい！」という気持ちに応え続け、7時間のロングセットを敢行した。

ここまでのパフォーマンスを披露してくれたPeterに我々はこれ以上の何を望むのだろうか？
とさえ思うが、Peterには常々そのさらに上を目指す向上心がある。

自身でも最近はブレイクビーツや実験的なドラムンベースを制作するプロデューサーたちに良い刺激を受けていると言い、以下のように綴っている。

「昨今、2〜3年前のドラムンベースと比べて、明らかな変化がある。音楽はより抽象的で音響的な冒険に満ち、高いプロダクション・クオリティを備えるようになってきた。中には、ダイナミクスとディテールに富んだ純粋なサウンドデザイン作品といえるトラックもあり、私はこの音楽に、DJ・プロデューサー・マスタリングのそれぞれの立場から関わってきましたが、このシーンがいまだに実験的で進化し続ける姿勢に満ちているのは明らか。とても刺激的な領域だ。」

そして今回、Peter Van Hoesen が私たちとともに探求するのは、まさにこの「豊かでブロークンな音世界」。
彼のために新たなサウンドシステム、そして新設されたサブウーファーが、その深みを惜しみなく存分に引き出してくれるだろう。

Peter Van Hoesen has been on an epic roll.

Last year, Peter closed Labyrinth with Atom™ as SYNC. in a 7-hour live set that went down in the history books. What Peter and Atom™ did that day redefined how two minds can play as one. And this year at Balance, our Spring event, Peter closed again—again playing for 7 hours—this time as a dj, to a loving crowd that just wanted more and more.

After so much, what more can we ask? Fortunately with Peter, there is always more.

Recently Peter has been inspired by producers creating breaks and experimental drum & bass. He writes:

“Compared to the drum & bass output from two or three years ago, there’s been a noticeable shift. The music has become more abstract and sonically adventurous, with increasingly high production values. Some tracks stand out as pure sound design pieces, rich in dynamics and detail. I’ve been engaging with this material from multiple angles—DJing, producing, and mastering—and it’s clear that this part of the scene remains driven by experimentation and boundary-pushing. It’s a rewarding area to explore.”

This is the area Peter Van Hoesen has decided to explore this October: a dj set of these rich, broken sounds. And we have a new sound system with all new subs to give him the tools he needs to explore these bass frequencies to their deepest.

MIKE PARKER (LIVE)

Mike Parkerは大学でアートを教える傍ら、現役のビジュアルアーティストでもある。彼のトレードマークとも言えるアートは、竹の筆を使ってインクで描かれたもので、その筆致には躍動感に溢れ、これらのインク画は、彼自身のレーベルGeophoneのレコードのジャケットを飾っており、シルクスクリーンの印刷も彼自身が自ら手がけている。

Mikeの音楽作品とミニマルなビジュアル、それらの共通した美学は、楽曲を聴けばすぐに感じ取れるだろう。彼はトラックを何度もリハーサルした上で、アナログ機材を使ってライブ録音し、一切のオーバーダビングを行わない。驚くべきなのは、その音楽に含まれるディテールと質感の豊かさで、無駄な音が一切なく、彼のスタジオにはコンピューターすら置かれていないという徹底ぶりだ。保存されたプリセットも、編集機能もない。リアルタイムで演奏されるその瞬間をただ録音するだけである。

過去20年にわたり、彼のミニマルかつサイケデリックな作品は、Prologue、Tresor、Semanticaといったテクノの名門レーベルからリリースされ、DJとしても世界各地で多くの公演をこなしてきた。しかしながら、実はMike Parkerのライブセットは非常に稀で、これまでに数えるほどしか披露されておらず、そのひとつが2015年のThe Labyrinth でのライブであり、今回10年ぶりにMindgamesに再来を果たす。

近年は、Samurai Music や Spazio Disponibile からのリリースで、170BPMのハーフテンポ・ゾーンにおいて彼独自のスタイルを切り拓いており、聴く者を驚嘆させている。現在彼は、10年ぶりに新たなライブセットを構築しており、そこには彼のクラシックなアシッドサウンドと、テクノとドラムンベースのクロスオーバーさせた要素が含まれる。

Mike Parker approaches techno from a distinct angle. He teaches art at university and is also a practicing visual artist. His trademark figures are done in ink with a bamboo calligraphy brush, rendered with gestures that are full of movement. These ink figures grace the covers of his Geophone label records, and he does the screenprinting himself of his works.

It’s easy to hear the link between Mike’s productions and his minimal visual aesthetic. He rehearses a track many times and then records live on analogue gear without overdubbing. The astonishing thing about Mike’s music is the incredible level of detail and textures that inhabit his sound, without a single excessive note and without a computer. No saved patches—just a moment in time captured.

Over the past two decades, his minimal psychedelic records have found a home on top techno labels such as Prologue, Tresor, and Semantica, and he has dj’ed everywhere, but a Mike Parker live set is one of the rarest sets in techno. He has only played live on a handful of occasions, such as at The Labyrinth in 2015.

Recently he has pioneered his own take on half-tempo 170 bpm zones with records on Samurai Music and Spazio Disponibile which are mind-blowing. He is now constructing a new live set for the first time in a decade which will feature both his classic acid sound and his techno-D&B crossover.

DJ MASDA

DJ Masdaは最上級の”Good Vibe”そのものだ。

現在はベルリンに拠点を置き、バイナルオンリーで長年に渡るキャリアを築いて来たMasdaは、当然ながら熱心なレコード収集家であり、またSo Inagawaと共に主宰するCabaret Recordingsからは仲間たちと共に中毒性の高いグルーヴの洗練されたマシーン・ファンクをバイナルリリースのみで創り続け、それらはストリーミングやダウンロードで聴くことはできない。DJとしてのその志向性は、ハウス、テクノ、エレクトロと幅広いが、それらを独自の方法で組み合わせた“電子ファンク”とも言えよう。現場の環境や時間帯に関わらず、Masdaのセットは機械的な精度を維持しながらも常に暖かなグルーヴが漂い、そこに居るフロア全員を虜にし、夢中にさせてしまう。

ブースに立つと、優雅に笑顔でミックスして行くその姿は自信に満ち、余裕さえも感じる。まさにGood vibeというワードを体現しており、是非Labyrinthのサウンドシステムでフロアに注がれるピュアなエネルギーを肌身で直接感じて欲しい。

DJ Masda is a vibe. The best vibe.

First of all there is the records. A vinyl-only dj, Masda is a cratedigger with decades of searching under his belt. His taste in records ranges across house, techno, and electro, but he combines these genres in a way that is uniquely his. Stripped down, no fucking around, electronic funk. No matter what mood he’s in or where he plays, a Masda set is alway warm machine grooves that has everyone on the floor bugging out.

And then there is the attitude. Masda is so confident behind the decks—mixing with grace and ease and always with a smile. It’s difficult to explain if you’ve never been there, but the energy Masda gives to the floor via his spirit is something very pure. Like I said, it’s a vibe.

Originally from Japan but now based in Berlin, Masda also runs a vinyl-only label with So Inagawa, Cabaret Recordings, where he releases the best of lean machine funk from his circle of friends, music that gets you stuck in a groove. You can’t download or stream this music anywhere. If you want to hear, you hunt for the vinyl, or you come to the floor to hear the don spin it for you. That’s the Masda vibe.

GRAND RIVER presents TUNING THE WIND (LIVE)

ミュージシャン・プロデューサーとして知られるオランダ系イタリア人Aimée Portioli（Grand River）は、今回のLabyrinthではDJセットに加えて”Tuning the Wind”名義でのライブセットを披露する。

Aiméeは、国営ラジオから映画音楽に至るまで幅広い音楽分野で活動し、2019年以降ギャラリーや美術館から4つのインスタレーション作品の依頼を受け、音楽を通して「時間の経過による感情の風化」「想像上の未来世界」「絶滅危惧種の鳥類」といったテーマを探求している。

“Tuning the Wind”はもともとインスタレーション作品としての構想だったが、以後ライブセットやアルバムへと発展した。このプロジェクトでは、彼女はさまざまな環境で”風”の音を録音し、それをレイヤー重ねやピッチシフトの技法を使って加工している。時には、風の音を基準の周波数に合わせて調整し、また楽器の音を風に合わせて調律する等様々な独自の技法を採用している。その結果、彼女の結論は、すべての音楽と音は「空気の動き」であり、この作品は電子音響合成と、あらゆる音の媒体である「空気」との境界を探ったものと位置付けた。

“Tuning the Wind”は、風と共に作られた、風にまつわる、自然との対話を抽象的に表現した高尚な作品群である。

In addition to playing as a DJ, the Dutch-Italian composer, musician and producer Aimée Portioli, aka Grand River, will also be performing a live set, “Tuning the Wind”.

Aimée has a deep background in sound design as a sound engineer and composer for everything from national radio and film scores to installation projects. Since 2019 she has been commissioned by galleries and museums for four installation projects exploring themes such the impact of time on fading emotions, future worlds of our imaginations, and endangered species of birds.

“Tuning the Wind” was first designed as an installation project, and it has since evolved into live sets and an album. For this project, she recorded the wind in various locations and then processed these recordings through layering and pitch shifting techniques. At times, the sound of the wind is tuned to a reference frequency, while at other times, the instruments are tuned to the sound of the wind. At the end of the day, all sound and music is about moving air, and this piece explores the boundaries between electronic synthesis and the medium of all sound itself, the air.

“Tuning the Wind is a piece about the wind, made with the wind—an abstract expression of our ongoing conversation with nature.”
