When friendships are made without reason
I was a very good neighbor to the lady who lived directly opposite my room. We had been close for a long time. She would come over to borrow things, and I always lent her whatever she asked for. Sometimes she would want to refill her gas cylinder and would call me to walk along with her just so I could keep her company. We were like good brothers and sisters. She brought me food sometimes, and I also shared the food I made with her. We joked a lot and laughed together most times. I would describe us as true friends — a proper definition of good friends.
Then, all of a sudden, something changed. A friend of hers came to visit and planned...

Not all the seeds in the good ground produced equal harvest. Some produced 30-fold, others 60-fold, while the rest produced 100-fold.
The degree to which a fellow is separated from things that can hinder God’s word from growing in him or her is the same degree to which the word will bear fruit in his or her life.
In John 15:1-5, Jesus paints a picture of how Christians can move from producin...

The Splashing Drop
I woke up that morning and went straight to the backyard to ease myself. We have a plantain plantation close to the fence, so I stood there, facing the plants, doing my thing in peace. Then I heard something drop right beside me. A heavy, wet sound. I looked down and saw something wrapped in a big leaf, sitting on the ground where it had just landed and splashed. My brain was slow to catch up, but when it did, I jumped back. It was shit. Human shit. Someone had thrown it over the fence and it had missed the plantain plantation and landed right next to me.
The shock alone nearly finished me. I just stood there for a moment, staring at this wrapped thing on the ground like it was going to explain itself. Then it hit me that whoever threw it had been aiming for the plantation. Which means they had done it before. Maybe many times. We just never knew because it was landing inside...

Thorny ground people in Matthew 13:7, 22 appears to love God’s word, but clearly not enough to change their ways or let go of some worldly pleasures.
Some Christians say that listening to worldly music is not a sin as long as they do not do what the lyrics of the songs say, or that gambling, drinking alco...

Being persecuted is a painful experience, and believers are not immune to it. In fact, going through the fires of persecution helps Christians to grow in faith (1 Peter 1:6-7, James 1:2-3).
The devil manages to convince some believers that doesn’t grow, that the pain they are experiencing as a resul...

Video editor dream
My laptop went off just when the tutorial was about to explain the part I did not understand. I stared at the black screen for a few seconds hoping it would somehow come back, but it stayed off. NEPA had taken light since afternoon and our small generator had no fuel.
I was learning video editing with CapCut at the time. Even the idea of editing properly felt bigger than me then. The laptop I was using was my uncle’s old one, already slow, with a weak battery and keys that sometimes refused to respond. Anytime I opened CapCut alongside a tutorial vide...

‘The way side’ soil type in Matthew 13:3-4, 19 refers to people who hear God’s word but do not understand it or act upon it.
Many in this category are ceremonial churchgoers; often raised in Christian homes, so it is normal for them to attend church on Sundays. They nev...

Bet your confidence
Yesterday’s UEFA Champions League match between PSG and Arsenal was pure drama, and I watched it live at a viewing center right in the middle of it all.
The match kicked off well, and you needed to see Arsenal fans in the venue. They were loud, proud, and full of energy. With every skillful move from an Arsenal player, they roared like th...

I had never been interested in tech. But Amarachi would not let it go. “Tech is the way. It is the future. We have to jump in now or never,” she kept telling me. After weeks of convincing, I finally agreed to follow her to a tech program.
It was the first time the program was being hosted, and the venue was close to where we lived, so distance was not an issue. When the day came, we set off, found...

Unfortunately, you might find some self-professing Christians today accepting bribes or dancing in nightclubs because they still have stony hearts.
Some people who serve as ministers of God also still appear to have hearts like unbelievers. Some of them go...

Joined in unity
The light went off in the middle of a film, and the whole house entered darkness. My brother shouted “NEPA,” my mother complained from the kitchen, and the fan slowly stopped turning. It was a hot night, and since our generator had no fuel, everybody had to endure the heat. My phone battery was low, so instead of scrolling, I went outside.
The compound was already full of people trying to escape the heat. Neighbours...

I will the next day
My dad has been asking me for pawpaw for like weeks now. Every time he’ll say Son, bring pawpaw when you’re coming, and every time I’ll say Okay papa, I won’t forget. Then I’ll forget.
So yesterday I said no, today must be the day. I checked my account I had 2k extra that I could spend without thinking much on. I told myself I’m buying pawpaw today, whether I like it or not.
I entered that market and started...

Innocent or not
Everything was normal. I was just chilling, minding my business, no trouble at all. Then out of nowhere, the whole place went chaotic. People started shouting, “EFCC! EFCC is here!” and everyone just scattered in different directions.
I hadn’t done anything wrong. But when EFCC raids a place, they don’t stop to separate innocent people from guilty ones. The fear is instant, and your body reacts before your brain even processes it. So I ran too.
My heart was pounding, adrenalin...

Dressed in the Dark
Because of the two-day blackout on Friday and Saturday, I had to leave my phone at a friend’s place to charge. That Saturday night, I slept off with no light in my room. I didn’t even have my rechargeable lantern — I’d left it at my friend’s place too.
But I always go to the early morning service. It starts around 6:00 AM, so I need to wake up around 5:00 AM to prepare and get to church on time. On this day, with no light, I had to rely on my “inside eye...

The day I faced the lab
In secondary school, whenever we were told to participate in chemistry practicals and procedures, I would always distance myself. It had continued for a very long time. I had successfully avoided touching the apparatus and mixing the chemicals.
It wasn’t because I was naturally scared of chemicals, and it wasn’t because I was too proud to approach it either. No, it wa...

First Ever Boat Experience
I had never been to the river before, not once in all my years of living, close enough to smell the rain when it hit the water. It was my neighbor who finally gave me a reason to go. She sells fish alongside other food items in her shop, and she needed someone to help her carry the extra loa...

The Thief Strikes Again
Yesterday morning I woke up at 6am and did everything I was supposed to do. I washed my clothes, hung them outside to dry under the sun, finished the rest of my house chores, and went back inside to rest. Everything was normal. Everything was fine.
Three hours later I stepped outside and my clothes were gone. Not misplaced, not blown away by wind, gone. Someone had walked up to my drying line in broad daylight and taken them. What made it worse was that other tenants were...
