Or to journalists- do programming showing all the ways librarians help kids. We do way more than check out books but we do help improve literacy, create lifelong readers, prepare kids for college level work, provide access for kids in book deserts. There is “More To The Story.”
Journalists-This week is National Library Week. We encourage you to ask tough questions and dig deeper into those wanting to restrict content or close public libraries, talk to BIPOC and LGBTQ authors as well, talk to librarians on the ground and do a deeper dive. 1/2
It’s School Library Month! Let’s celebrate with some interesting facts about our school libraries. I have a BA in English from TTU and an MA in Lib Sci from UNT.
Our certified librarians have at least two years of mandated classroom teaching, multiple school librarian certification courses, and a master's degree. Now this is what we called highly qualified! #TxASL
Fact: the @TXlege spent $8.2 billion less on @txed than budgeted in 2021-23. Inflation was over 14%. There is a huge shortage of educators - morale at all-time low. Anything less than a 14% raise will be a net reduction in pay. This is the time to do better for public ed in TX
The public education committee of #Txlege is hearing testimony covering the process school librarians use to purchase materials. Please share/tag w/your representatives so they have accurate information when making decisions. @RightToReadTX@LuPodmore @brooke_bking @thenextgenlib
This survey is one of many that touts the benefits of reading outside the school day. We offer this information so #txlege members can have the best information in front of them when making decisions that impact school libraries and our students.

We spend 50% more hours in school than Finland. They get 15 mins of recess every hour. They have NO standardized tests except for PISA in HS and they outperform us every time. When we can’t give students more recess, physical activity & Arts then we don’t understand education.
