On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in
Galveston, Texas with the news that the more than 250
,000 enslaved Black people in the state were free. This
day came to be known as Juneteenth, now officially a

Exactly 100 years ago the cornerstone was laid for @URochester_SMD. The inscription reads '1923' because construction was hampered when quicksand made it difficult to lay the foundation, and poor weather caused terrible construction conditions. On June 14, 1924, the foundation stone was finally installed.
