Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has sought to clarify her government’s position on Venezuela’s deepening political crisis, insisting Trinidad and Tobago will not back any individual, but supports the democratic transition of power.
Her comments follow a defence by Foreign Affairs Minister Sean Sobers, who says government remains focused on stability and due process, even as questions grow over the United States’ dramatic removal of Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro.
Venezuela’s Deposed President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores are expected to make their first court appearance in New York City this afternoon.
The Venezuelan leader and his wife were captured and taken into us custody on Saturday, in a mission dubbed Operation Absolute Resolve.
