Postdoc @NotreDame | PhD @CornellSoc. Ever evolving ethnographer. Studying school punishment, race, and place in the rural South. She/her. @mingome on Bluesky
My first sole-authored publication is out in @SREJournal ✨
Drawing on an ethnography of Abundance Junior High School*, I argue that school discipline in the rural northeast Louisiana Delta is shaped by racial, spatial, and social dimensions of place.

Corporal punishment is legal in private schools in 45 states and in public schools in 18 states. In this policy brief, @mingome (@sociologyND) argues against the use of corporal punishment, sharing evidence on its negative effects on children.

This is among the most non-reflective fuck shit I have read in awhile, which is saying a lot in this country.
Re-title: I purposefully avoided confirming my friends were racist & xenophobic bc my pleasure was more important than the safety & wellbeing of my undocumented partner
Just a morally corrupt, irredeemably cruel nation.
Note the case where the parents of an 8 year old and 4 month old baby were sent to detention facilities after a school bus driver called police to report another student had threatened to kill the 8 y/o.

I should say this is primarily a white American construct, though empire has constructed a US identity that, even for those denied full citizenship and equal treatment at home, leads some to buy into this entitlement when engaging ex-US.
I think a lot about how completely US American it is to feel entitled to complete safety AND zero negative economic impact when you are not only at war, but started it.
Just complete audacity + entitlement rooted in dehumanization of others + overestimation of one’s own value.
1.Internal emails from Liberty University Law School, obtained by Popular Information, reveal how the Trump admin hires interns.
Students were informed about "exciting" legal internships at Labor Department.
“You MUST be aligned politically with President Trump… GPA is not a strong factor.”
This nation will always choose profit over people, classism over community. Shame on @FTLCityNews and everyone involved in this disgusting project. Wishing yall bad knees, broken paddles, and sand that never washes out of your sheets.

Trayvon Martin should be celebrating his 31st birthday today.
White supremacy killed him, as it has so many others. May we never be forgiven.

all the movies had AI gaining sentience and killing us, but in reality, it'll just be people deciding that avoiding the effort to write an email or read without a computer summarizing for them is more important than the poisoning of entire communities
Reporting on Robert Docter's death describes his legacy as removing the long-held right of school staff to hit children and working to quickly & aggressively address the harms of segregation.
I'd be pretty damn proud to be remembered that way. RIP.

ok I’m sorry to my budget but if I see a crazy deal on squishmallows you can’t tell me not to send 100 of them to the K-8 school in Baltimore my cousin teaches at when the holidays are coming up
the algorithm knows I am a sucker
Thank you for the perfect illustration of why leftists are over the Democratic Party establishment. Just nasty work. Can’t even bring yourself to congratulate Mamdani.
New Jersey and Virginia have chosen well by electing @MikieSherrill and @SpanbergerForVA as their next governors!
They are proven leaders who won by focusing on what matters most - how politics and policy can make everyday life better and more affordable.
Also, the 2014 GQ profile that describes how deeply the hypersexualization following his iconic ‘Untitled (How Does It Feel)’ video affected him as an artist and human is a must read. Such an important look at race, gender, labor, entertainment, the body.

The year was 2012. I was living my best life in Philly. D’Angelo was on tour w Mary J Blige, his first in a decade. My friend Carmen & I had a TIME seeing em at Mann Center. A week later, saw him again at Made in America.
I feel so lucky to have seen his gift live. What a loss.
If you’ve ever eaten or had a drink at my house, you’ve heard D’Angelo. If you have ridden in my car, you’ve heard D’Angelo.
RIP to a true legend and one of my favorite artists of all time. 💔
