@AprilDibs @HYBE_MERCH Thank you! I did get V4, but I still wanna say that it is ridiculous. More like “oh we haven’t figured out the logistics, pls bear with us but still buy the new one”. The Toronto popup doesn’t even have V4 listed for purchase. We also haven’t had a pick up announcement.

@kalicokoo I love the idea but it is complicated. I wanna enjoy the surprise songs, I have to move to the app and sing. It’s not necessarily a big ask but I am an anxious person so it feels like a lot. Usually during concerts I am so in I forget to put on the banner.

@akysmagicshop It also reminded me of Simon Cowell trying to find a girl or boy group to beat K-pop and he called it UK-pop. I’ve always known Brit-pop and I don’t know if he wanted to broaden it by saying UK, or just because he could add U to K-pop to make it his thing.

@amlysbang I feel like her quest to create this new category blinded her in seeing all the issues with it. Wanting to bring more visibility and shine, but then I am sure the Asian artists would still be famous. Her statement made it worse.

This conversation does not end with the Grammys.

If we're serious about questioning how global music is represented, then every major award show that has introduced separate K-pop or Asian categories in recent years deserves scrutiny. These categories are often presented as progress and inclusion. But they also raise an uncomfortable question: are they expanding opportunities, or are they creating separate lanes for artists who have already proven they can compete on the biggest stages?

The rise of BTS forced the global music industry to acknowledge a reality it could no longer ignore. A Korean act wasn't simply succeeding within K-pop but they were competing with the biggest names in mainstream pop, breaking records, selling out stadiums, and shaping global culture. Since then, award shows across the industry have introduced dedicated K-pop or Asian categories to box BTS up.

This is why the conversation is bigger than anything. It's about every artist who sings in a language other than English. It's about whether global music institutions truly believe music is universal, or whether they still see some artists as "international" first and equals second. If diversity becomes a justification for separation instead of equal opportunity, then we have every right to question it.
