@CBCEarlyEdition interesting interview with teachers about Black experiences & resources during Freedom to Read week. Should “To Kill a Mockingbird” be banned?

A job ad posted by a northern B.C. school district seeking on-call uncertified teachers has intensified calls by parents and teachers for the provincial government to urgently address a shortage of classroom staff.

If I die on a city road without a protected bike lane, I don't want a ghost bike. I want a memorial bike lane. And if the city says it's not possible, I want people to advocate until it is.
This is the #onted#onpoli thread of the day.
Key for #bced#bcpoli is that politicians, deputy ministers, & other senior leaders need to spend at least one day shadowing an EA before they have any credibility to talk about the value of that work.
The BC teacher and EA shortage is at crisis levels, in Surrey and around the province. Outside of metro districts are hiring non-teachers to teaching contracts. In 2017 there was a government task force, since then the crisis has only deepened. #bced#bcpoli
The public should be alarmed that multiple school districts from across the province are actively trying to hire unqualified people to be “teachers” that’s how acute the shortage of teachers is in #bced#bcpoli@JM_Whiteside@Dave_Eby@richardzussman@keithbaldrey @SoniaFurstenau
