You never really realise how much of an influence you're having on your kids until they ask to borrow your highlighter and you watch her marking/commenting her grammar work the way you do your Uni notes.

@Type217 I used to point out that the only way to make money in childcare was by reducing costs & for the little customer that means less food, less toys/resources, or less adults taking care of you. You can't increase the number of little customers without compromising care.

@Type217 It used to be. We watched all our amazing community owned & run centres get bought out by "Eddy" Groves years ago, turned them all into a Maccas-style franchise & then went broke. At the expense of quality care & education & we've never really recovered from that.

Mum just asked if she could "make an appointment" with me because you can only use the paper-form to update your passport if you're over 75 (she's 68), otherwise you have to do it online & she's pretty computer savvy but lacks confidence to tackle important tasks/docs.

My local business of the week award goes to Bing Shropshire, who has been selling his jugs of tea in the Municipal Gardens for 45 years. 'The odd thing is,' confessed Bing, 64, 'is that I don't even like tea. I hate it. And I hate people.'
