Empowering rural women in agriculture is vital ! By addressing the unequal labor dynamics and recognising the value of their unpaid care work, we can uplift #women .
Governments need to adopt sustainable agricultural models and ensure equality. #InternationalDayofCareAndSupport
“[T]he four companies that conservatively account for about 70 per cent of the global food market share registered a dramatic rise in profits during 2021–2022”
Meanwhile, the number of people who are food insecure in 2023 has more than doubled compared to 2020.
@UNCTAD
So much depends on whether the global north will invest significant resources in the global south.
It hasn't happened yet, so it's assumed that global north voters don't want to share—but that's not really true.

Talking to @AlJazeera today, Mathew Truscott, Oxfam Humanitarian Policy Lead, says: "The climate crisis is really going to be a water crisis. As the world heats, we will have more drought and flood cycles leading to more spread of diseases, migration, and changes in crops."
"Solutions to end hunger exist, but need bold political action," says Hanna Saarinen, Oxfam Food Policy Lead. She urges governments to back small-scale producers and champion women farmers, who are vital in battling global hunger.

As I said to the @UN Security Council, hunger and conflict are inextricably linked. We must stop the weaponization of hunger, beginning with Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and its assault on the global food system. Failure to act now will have dire consequences.
Ppl facing acute, conflict- & climate-induced hunger will be most affected by disruptions in the flow of Ukrainian grain. The deal needs to be back on & attacks must stop.
The long-term fix is to move away from a food system built around a few breadbaskets & mega agribusinesses.
You aren't going to get in on the ground floor of this one, but I feel like you have a career path if you do the whole health nutrition angle + bike lane advocacy + trenchant analysis of global inequality.
Just saw a couple described this way:
"Both are successful health/nutrition influencers."
With no other desciptors. Wow. That's a whole livelihood and identity? Wow.
Great interview. Bottom line: the issues Russia has raised about their own grain and fertilizer exports should not be cause to scrap the important Black Sea Grain Initiative and getting food to countries like Yemen and Lebanon which rely on grain imports from Ukraine.
Early but great start to the day with @NPRinskeep on Morning Edition talking about the ramifications of yesterday's breakdown of the Black Sea Grain deal for the global food crisis. https://t.co/glNP3mB2wG
OXFAM REACTION to Russia pulling out of the Black Sea Grain Initiative. "The deal helped but is not the cure-for-all to world hunger. Less than 3% of grain from this deal went to the world’s hungriest."

We believe it's time to #FixTheFoodSystem so it reduces hunger and empowers smallholder farmers.

Today, 4 members of the House introduced legislation that would severely damage critical U.S. programs designed to fight global hunger and build resilience for local farming communities, and would decrease the efficiency of food assistance.
Our statement: https://t.co/rfIWTsFnEK
Preventing hunger requires supporting frontline communities with earlier, more efficient interventions. Strengthening international food aid programs in the U.S. #FarmBill to better meet needs on the ground can serve as a clear action point for Congress to combat global hunger.
G7 leaders will be heading to Japan for Friday’s summit. But they’ve forgotten something…
At the last G7 summit, they made big promises on #Famine prevention. Now, with crisis hitting #EastAfrica, their silence is deafening.
See no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil means… /1
Happy to share the first dossier of a newly established @alamedainst on the Russia-Ukraine war, sovereignty, and internationalism, which brings together some young critical authors from the post-Soviet region, the Global South, and some well-known Western authors.
UK will spend GBP1000m (GBP1b) towards hunger and malnutrition. UK will co-host a pledging moment for humanitarian aid to address the famine in east Africa in New York on 20th May.
