Jason Arday is completely innocent. In fact, it's the only theory that makes sense. Liar, fraud, and "con man" just don't fit the data, sociologically or characterologically.
That's why this case feels so big, bigger than any of the academic fraud cases in recent memory.
This is obviously a kind, gentle, loving person—all he is doing is what most people in the world do: he is deploying words in whatever way sincerely feels like it will do good for the world.
Of course, this is a scandal because some of our institutions are supposed to do other kinds of things with words.
At one point in history, anyway, Cambridge was a place where a very specific type of person gathered to do a very specific, extreme, difficult thing with words. That thing ceased being the place's raison d'être over 50 years ago, but heritage brands die hard; so even many of our smartest scholars (who genuinely know and do that special, rare thing) cling to utterly wishful notions about the status quo university (especially the elite ones, which they imagine have been relatively immune, but in fact have deteriorated even more catastrophically given their high baseline).
Listen to his interviews.
This is not the Wolf of Wall Street but the Sweet Summer Child. His psychology is essentially this: If you say certain words that make other people happy, and then they give you applause and money, then it is good to produce words in that way. This is just being a good person. To be accused of doing bad things when you have only ever said good things, just means the accusing people are just bad people.
Now, most people who make it to advanced careers at Cambridge are not altogether more noble than this. But they are far more sophisticated. They too have spent more than a decade producing essentially arbitrary strings of words (not as naively stupid as Arday's but with a similarly socialized and compromised notion of what it means to put words together for an academic career). That weird, rare thing that Newton was doing at Cambridge is as alien to the median "legitimate" scholar at Cambridge, and the best in academia will admit this at the bar.
(Aside: The good ones worth their salt are closer to 99th percentile, essentially, and they keep their mouths shut about politics because politics is for the mediocre academics! Cofnas, who is a good scholar and ethically correct in all of this is probably only ethically correct due to 'moral luck;' if he were happily tenured at a level he's content with, he'd be doing real science and wouldn't touch this with a ten foot pole!)
So in my mind, Jason Arday is ethically higher ranked than the modal professor at Cambridge—to be perfectly frank and completely serious. He's an idiot but I genuinely believe there is not a trace of mens rea in this guy.
The only reason there is outrage is because a bumpkin commentariat (including many high-IQ people) still believe that something different is supposed to be happening at a place like Cambridge. Against all reality for decades, there is a widespread, persistent confidence in these legacy heritage brands, which gives them credit they stopped deserving long ago. So this "scandal" is mostly driven by the wildly out-of-date wishfulness of the outraged observers. Anyone who's made it reasonably far up the ladder of academia finds this to be relatively unremarkable (though yes, Arday is an extremely dramatic case study and again Cofnas is in the right to discuss it).
Even Cambridge did nothing exceptionally wrong here! They are just a normal social institution doing what normal institutions do after that rare thing Newton wanted to do can no longer be understood or protected for diverse structural reasons.
Neither the modal administrator nor Jason Arday even understand that once upon a time the University of Cambridge did something truly specific, rare, and uniquely valuable with words. Just listen to them, and take them at face value: They are sincerely convicted that what Newton was doing at Cambridge was ideological fakery to dominate the less educated and non-white populations. What could possibly be wrong with giving Jason Arday the university's highest honors? What could possibly be wrong with saying nice and creative stories that win honors?
People just have no idea how far it's all gone.... Or they have to pretend otherwise, for the sake of representing some respectable pole of the discourse.
If you give problems the wrong names, you can't understand them.
If you can't understand problems, you can't fix them.
There are almost no homeless people in America. There are only feral humans.
A homeless person is someone whose distinguishing feature is not having a home. I was homeless once, for a day, when the lease on one apartment expired before the next one was cleaned, repaired, and ready.
I parked a moving van full of my worldly possessions at my university, and slept on a couch in the student commons.
That's "homeless".
"Feral" is when a human cannot live within society, or comply with the basic expectations required for membership.
Yes, they do not have homes.
But this is not their distinguishing feature. Because they also don't have jobs, sanity, sobriety, manners, morals, or hygiene.
Which is why they do not have homes.
If you give them a house, because you think they are "homeless" rather than "feral", then they will simply repeat, within that structure, the same feral behavior.
And soon that structure will be uninhabitable.
Which, for certain people, is the whole point.
A man whose job is to sell 3d printed houses isn't trying to fix the feral-human problem. He's trying to sell 3d printed houses.
And it's one hell of a lot easier to sell them to bureaucrats who aren't spending their own personal money.
It doesn't matter if 3d printed houses suck to live in. It doesn't matter if the feral humans trash them. Nobody in this equation cares about the feral humans, even the feral humans themselves.
And nobody in this equation cares about the taxpayers. If the feral humans are still feral, then the 3d house grifters can sell more gimmick houses, and the bureaucrats can spend more of someone else's money.
If a violent political upheaval becomes necessary, this will be very unpleasant for everyone involved, but at least afterwards, we will all be able to use the feral humans, bureaucrats, and grifters to fertilize the garden of new homes.
Which will be made out of bricks.
@jgo34 Indulging your kinks isn’t imperative for intellectual flourishing. Also, such an odd way of framing things! “I just want my trannies and commies” is surely a strange philosophical argument.
@miniapeur While 15-year students exist, this is intentionally cruel. The choice of Mullen signaled their direction for sure. I’m for stricter immigration controls but this is just bad all around.
@akoustov I’d compare it to sneaking into any other club setting (ranch, gym, house). And then pointing to land worked well/machines are wiped down/look, the burglar set up a beautiful knitting station as an excuse for the original transgression. Of course, some advocate for squatters 🤷♂️
@It_is_Tiresome@HistoryBoomer Trust me, they all have the same power (and ideas), at least in the university. It’s all just below the surface. They are openly saying that they just need to buckle down and wait this admin out.
@indy543219748@HistoryBoomer Yup, ran out of space to mention that issue in my reply. If NHJ can dig up grievances from 17th century, surely we shouldn’t forget insanity of the last decade. Also nobody paid for covid totalitarianism (jab or fired, remember?). Exactly, nothing happened, let’s not be gaslit.
@HistoryBoomer All those are good starts. Honestly, an AI comb of university and school district emails where discriminatory practices were endorsed, their exposure, and removal of those responsible from positions of authority would also be a good start. Restitutions to people fired etc
@RobertTalisse An alternative hypothesis (from observations of very senior faculty) is that they just lose most of their marbles. Many get hyper-fixated on some bizarre thing and inject it into every conversation, for example.
yeah its kind of annoying when they try to teach your 5 year olds about gay sex and yeah its kind of annoying when they fire you if you don't pretend they're a girl and yeah its kind of annoying when they hold drag stripper shows for children or featuring children in the park next to your house
Its kind of annoying
And you are not a "decent person".
@HistoryBoomer It’s an assault on truth. Now, as a classical lib to a classical lib, imagine a person with institutional power hedging on the age of the Earth or the greenhouse effect. Wesley Yang has the most cogent position on this issue.
@wesyang It’s demoralizing that the Trump admin can’t act quickly and efficiently enough to excise this tumor. They have the money lever and they don’t use it. They have the Supreme Court and it’s incremental. It’s all too slow and the cult will have its government back soon.
In reality, the officers witnessed multiple Black men initiate an assault against a White man.
A girlcop then immediately rushed in and assaulted the White victim as he picked himself up off the ground.
The White victim instinctively reacted to the girlcop's blindside assault before he could even identify her as a girlcop - and he stopped instantly once he saw what she was. He swung his arm around her precious little head, and she was unscathed.
Police then proceeded to arrest the White assault victim, who they themselves had also assaulted, and the Black males that the police witnessed assault the White victim were allowed to carry on about their business.
Then, despite this all being on crystal clear video for the entire world to see, the Birmingham Police have the audacity to follow it up with this statement:
"The incident has been reviewed, and we have no concerns over the officer's actions and we are satisfied that they were reasonable and proportionate in the circumstances. We would ask that footage is not further shared to allow the legal process to take its course."
They have no concerns over their girlcop attacking the White victim of a Black-on-White gang attack, arresting that White victim, and allowing the multiple Black attackers to go free. But they want you to stop sharing the video of what they did.
YOU'RE the problem. Not them.
This, exactly one month after the now-infamous Henry Nowak bodycam footage was released.
Reality has surpassed dystopian fiction, and all this anti-White system does is double, triple, and quadruple down on it. White people are universal punching bags, and other Whites in positions of authority are universally comfortable using that authority to abuse their own kin, believing, perhaps, that it will be enough to absolve them of their own original sin of Whiteness.
This state of affairs is sick beyond words, and no words that can be spoken within the terms of service would effectively convey what's truly deserved by every last minion participating in this anti-White war.
It is grounded on a proposition that isn't true. It inflicts cruelties and absurdities on myriad categories of vulnerable people, above all the confused children it brainwashes into a desire to be chemically castrated and dismembered.
But above all, it tells a lie. It tells people that the lie is compulsory, that they relinquish their membership in the human family if they don't affirm it, if they don't aid in the brainwashing of vulnerable young people into inflicting a lifetime of medicalized self-harm on themselves. It tells them that they will be ostracized and despised if they don't collude with this lie.
It tells them that state power will bear down on them if they don't sit idly by as the entire regulatory and truth-seeking and certifying apparatuses of the Western world propagate this lie and enforce this lie and heap scorn on people who won't tell it to themselves, and tell it to others, and punish others if they don't pretend that this lie is the only truth, and if they don't pretend that people who tell the truth are fascistic monsters who endanger children and bring about their deaths by suicide.
All of the movement's successes thus far have been the product of this campaign of lies. The campaign of lies and intimidation, of bullying and emotional blackmail, has met its limits in some places for now because some people retain the capacity to reject these lies and in some places those people are in the majority such that they retain the capacity to resist it. The United States happens to be one such place. But if you look at Canada and Australia and Germany and France and Spain, you see places where the lie continues to wield unchallenged state power, and you see that very little even in the United States that prevents it from lapsing back into the state of the places that have succumbed to the lie.
"Transphobia" is a made up smear word that folx across the political spectrum spent a decade permitting fantastical cruelties and absurdities to be inflicted on girls, women, and children in order to avoid being called.
It should be crystal clear by now that the term has always meant "Doesn't think a man becomes a woman when he claims to be one," that it is the reasonable and factual view, that the contrary view is a ludicrous falsehood, and that the political movement built upon it must crumble politically as it does conceptually and be put in the dustbin of history.
