I don't know why this is sent to be by Medicare. If it is to pressure me to prescribe more like my colleagues, I am proud of my list. I believe everything you give patients has side effects and to prescribe smartly.
Firstly, finasteride, i counsel my patients on sexual side effects, and IMHO, if you are going on finasteride, you likely could just do a MIST for the prostate. But it has a role for patients, but I think the harm is understated by urologists. Now for alfuzosin vs. Flomax, I think they are equivalent clinically. Why give as a first line a med that is more likely to cause retrograde.
Prescribing cipro less, also important i simply without evidence will not treat every prostate inflammation with cipro. Lastly, why prescribe myrbetriq over antimuscarinic in a geriatric population. I think is self explanatory. If insurance doesn't cover it I give my patients samples. I am not giving my patients an inferior option because insurance refuses to pay for it.
