To everyone coming for my sister Erika Kirk right now,
Three months ago we lost Charlie. A light that none of us will ever replace. The pain is still raw, it wakes us up at 3am, it sits heavy on our chests some days. Erika lives in that pain every single second
And still, last weekend at the gala, she smiled. I was there with Jack. She was working so hard to keep Charlie’s mission alive
Yes, she smiled. Because that smile is the same one Charlie fell in love with. The same one he used to tease her about, saying it could power the whole country when she turned it on. That smile doesn’t mean she’s “over it.” It doesn’t mean she’s forgotten. It means she’s still here. Still fighting. Still choosing to let a tiny bit of light in, even when her heart is shattered.
Grief isn’t a prison sentence that says you forfeit joy forever. Smiling doesn’t cancel out the tears she cries when no one’s watching. It doesn’t erase the nights she can’t breathe because missing him hurts so much.
Should her kids never see her smile again?
If you’ve never watched the person you love most slip away, if you’ve never had to figure out how to keep living when half your soul is gone, then please, have some grace
Erika, I love your smile.
I hope you never, ever stop smiling.
Charlie would hate it if you did.
Smile for your beautiful children, smile for Charlie, smile for you
Keep shining, my beautiful friend. We’ve got you. Always
— Tanya Tay 💔✨
