Novice runners tend to go too hard on the easy days and too easy on the hard days.
Same thing occurs in the office. We spend too much time, energy and effort on emails, meetings, etc.
We don't block off enough time for the deep work that leads to actual progress and growth.
The ruining of recreational sports is a significant issue in our current child mental health crisis.
Kids need developmental spaces where parental driven competition isn’t front and center.
We traded true development for profits…
NEW: Former President Barack Obama appears to reenact the viral 'Key & Peele' skit as he sends off Team USA basketball to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Obama was seen 'dapping up' the basketball players before giving a modest handshake to the coaches.
The former president surprised the players before they headed off.
"I’m pretty confident that they’re going to be bringing back the gold and representing us the way we should be represented around the world," Obama said.
"I just want to come here to obviously help send off the soon-to-be gold-medal winners. But I want to come by and say thank you to the legends who have represented USA Basketball and America for 50 years now."

90% of coaching is helping people get out of their own way.
Ego, fear of failure, status anxiety, external validation = Get in our way.
I've spent 15 years researching, writing & working with elite performers on how to get the most out of ourselves.

Made a Dr.Dre reference, then had a fun chat w/@fleshmanflyer. Our experiences in sport and career paths are very different. Loved hearing her perspective. Grab her NYT Bestseller,“Good For a Girl”@ https://t.co/7oD1NS5g7G
In 2020, Damar Hamlin started a GoFundMe to purchase toys for children in his community. The initial goal was $2,500.
Tonight, it has garnered more than a million dollars in donations ❤️
Elite performers are masters at manipulating their physiology.
They know when to turn the volume up, get hyped & excited.
They know how to turn the volume down, let go, & refocus on the next task.
They are masters at getting into their zone of optimal performance.
Here's how:
Are you a participant or observer in life?
It seems like w are increasingly becoming observers. More watching, less doing.
Doing tends to ground us. Reminds of the difficulty in creating and pursuing.
Everything looks easier when we are watching a game, instead of playing.
I'm not questioning motivation or saying it is bad parenting. But as an Olympic athlete, I promise you this is not good for the child. Children are children. Let them run around, but as the parent you need to protect their growing bodies and their young minds.
You can offer harder critiques if you have done the work to show the person you care about them & that you're trying to help them get better.
Create a secure environment. Many skip this step. Thinking "I'm just trying to help," without any prior history showing they actually are
Many of the most impactful things we can do for our health & performance are simple & easy.
We overlook them, searching for the magic hack. Do the easy things:
1. Go for a walk
2. Get outside in nature
3. Spend time with friends
4. Get absorbed in an activity
5. Read
6. Reflect
