One of the most tragic stories I read about from October 7 was Mark Demidova. The 12 year old was visiting Israel from Ukraine with his mother Natalia who was in a long term relationship with a firefighter called Shalom Tzaban. They were in a car in Sderot when Hamas terrorists shot and killed Natalia instantly and Shalom died from his injuries after hours trapped in their car.

Mark was shot too but managed to get away and was patched up by a local resident. But it was chaos that day and the child couldn’t speak Hebrew. Mark only found Shalom’s family at his funeral the next day where Shalom’s ex-partner Marina realised he still had a bullet inside him. She rushed him to get treatment and cared for him for ten days.

Eventually she took Mark back home to Ukraine. Without his mother.

An unimaginable trauma this child experienced and I cannot fathom the pain.

This picture has taken the internet by storm & stolen the hearts of many. A newborn elephant calf, merely 3-4 days old was getting swept away by strong river current of Teesta. These brave fishermen Bablu, Kedar Das, Gopal, Mithun & Biswanath risked their lives, chased the current for atleast 3 Kms and rescued the calf.

0001 Ja ću od danas kačiti projekte u kojima nam je EU pomogla da bismo mogli da funkcionišemo kao zemlja, bez obzira na politiku.

Krenimo od 2000. godine, jer se neke stvari brzo zaborave.

Srbija je te zime bila u takvom stanju da je EU obezbedila 144.000 tona goriva i mazuta za elektrane, toplane i javne ustanove širom zemlje. EU je platila 70% ukupnog uvoza struje te zime kako bismo smanjili restrikcije.

Gorivo za grejanje dobilo je oko 1.000 škola, bolnica i sistema daljinskog grejanja, u opštinama u kojima je živelo oko 80% stanovništva Srbije.

Stizali su rezervni delovi za Kolubaru i Kostolac da bi rudnici mogli da proizvode dovoljno uglja za termoelektrane.

Za zdravstvo je izdvojeno 20 miliona evra. Lekovi, uključujući insulin, laboratorijski materijal, špricevi i igle distribuirani su u oko 300 apoteka, bolnica i domova zdravlja širom Srbije.

A onda hrana: EU je obezbedila 15.000 tona šećera i 15.000 tona jestivog ulja. Od novca dobijenog njihovom prodajom potom je uvezeno još 15.000 tona kukuruza i 10.000 tona NPK đubriva.

To je bila EU pomoć Srbiji 2000. godine.

Ne pričamo o zastavama i parolama. Pričamo o tome da ima struje, da rade toplane i rudnici, da bolnica ima insulin i špriceve i da u prodavnici ima ulja i šećera.

Idemo dalje, projekat po projekat.

The Islamic Republic executed rapper Erfan Mirzaei on Sunday, September 6, at the morning adhan, in Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan. No warning. No last call to his family. The rope and the silence.

He was a young rapper. His crime was standing against a regime that kills to survive. He sang of freedom and hope in a country where a song can cost your life. Those who knew him remember a young man full of fire, art, and big dreams. The regime stole all of it in a single dawn, while the world slept.

He was arrested during the January protests and executed in secret, while the Islamic Republic continues slaughtering January protesters in Iran's prisons under a total news blackout.

His funeral is today, Say his name. Do not let the gallows have the last word.

🚨WOW!!!

A wild coyote wandered a Los Angeles neighborhood for nearly a YEAR with a swollen face, hurting and alone…

...but instead of looking away, the whole neighborhood quietly took care of her; a paperboy even left her water and texted photos so someone could help.

This week, they FINALLY saved her!!! ❤️

Her name is Wendy.

For about a year, she roamed the streets of Studio City in the San Fernando Valley with an extremely swollen face, somehow surviving in a condition that should have taken her long ago.

"I don't know how she was surviving for that long," said Barbara Perrin.

Perrin usually rescues cats and dogs through a nonprofit called Saving Grace LA.

Coyotes aren't her thing, but when her son spotted Wendy and called her, she couldn't just move on.

When she started asking around, she found something beautiful... this wild animal had a whole community of people quietly looking out for her.

Neighbors had been watching over her for months and they're the ones who gave her the name Wendy.

"I had this sweet newspaper boy on the route, and he would text me pictures. He would put water for her and little scraps. People really cared about her, which was amazing to see."

As Perrin shared Wendy's story, the help kept growing.

Wildlife Care of Southern California had already been tracking Wendy since July, following tips from worried neighbors.

Southern California Pitbull Rescue jumped in too,setting up cameras where she'd been spotted so they could follow her movements.

Months of strangers working together, all for one hurting animal and this week… it finally paid off.

They rescued her.

Wendy is now safe at Wildlife Care of Southern California, stretched out on soft blankets, getting antibiotics, medicine, and food for the first time in who knows how long.

...but it didn't just stop there.

The community donated THOUSANDS of dollars for the medical care for this wild coyote most of them only ever saw from a distance.

"I think Wendy is a testament to so many people caring and wanting to help and reaching out."

For the first time in a year, Wendy finally has a chance to heal ❤️

Jolene Goes Looking for Her Calf: When a Mother Cow Calls “Dad the Human” for Help 💖

Jolene is a rescued Longhorn cow who now lives with the herd at an animal sanctuary founded by Lester and his family after Hurricane Harvey. Here, the cows are cared for for life. They are not sold or sent to slaughter, but are allowed to live together in a safe environment.

Sir Scotty is Jolene’s calf, a little Longhorn boy given a name with the air of a knight. The two live together at the sanctuary, where the young calf can grow up beside his mother.

That morning, Jolene and the herd were let out into the pasture. The calf was still small and had fallen asleep in the tall grass, so his mother could not see him.

Jolene immediately became distressed.

She bellowed, running all over the pasture, looking first one way and then another. The longer she could not find her calf, the more restless she became, looking so troubled that anyone watching could tell how worried she was.

After searching on her own for a while, the mother cow turned to “Dad the human”, the carer who regularly looked after the herd. She bellowed and looked at him with an almost reproachful expression, as if asking: “Where is Sir Scotty? Did you take my baby?”

The way the mother cow went from searching for her calf herself to turning to “Dad the human” makes the scene feel like a very clear request for help: “I can’t find my baby. Dad, please help me look.”

What is fascinating is that cows are far more complex than they may appear. Mother and calf can recognise one another through their individual calls. Studies have found that mothers respond more strongly to the calls of their own calves than to those of other calves, while calves can also recognise their mothers’ calls.

Cows can also remember people they regularly interact with and respond differently depending on how they are treated. Gentle interactions, such as speaking softly or stroking a cow when it is comfortable, can help build a more friendly relationship between cows and people.

That is why there is something particularly special about the mother cow turning to “Dad the human”. She is not only looking for her calf. She is also turning to someone she knows, as though she understands that he may be able to help her find the little one who has gone missing.

Then the calf was found.

The mother cow calmed down as soon as she saw him. Her restlessness disappeared, and mother and calf were together again in the pasture.

Anyone who has spent time around cows may not be surprised by a story like this. Some cows enjoy being stroked, some like staying close to their carers, some remember the people who regularly call their names, and each has its own way of showing trust.

When cows are given a safe place to live and cared for gently, their endearing personalities also have a chance to emerge. Some enjoy being stroked, some like staying close to people, while others remember their carers and turn to them when they need help.

Perhaps that is one of the most meaningful things about animal rescue. When a cow is given the chance to live in a peaceful home, people can see that there is more to her than an animal raised for meat.

She can be a devoted mother searching for her calf, a cow who knows to turn to “Dad the human” when she needs help, and a four-legged friend who simply enjoys being loved.

And it all begins with something very simple: giving her a place to live.

Ratko Mladić was convicted of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. The return of his remains to Belgrade reminds Europe of the darkest pages in our recent history.

The glorification surrounding his death is incompatible with the values on which the EU path is built. That path requires confronting the past, genuine reconciliation and respecting the victims of war crimes.
