Cuba’s Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) trains thousands of young people from around the world to become doctors. Most of the students at the ELAM are from other Global South countries, including more than 200 from Palestine.
Murid Abukhater is one of them.
“We all have something in common,” said Murid, who left Gaza in 2017 to study in Cuba. “We couldn't study medicine in our own countries and we received a full-ride scholarship in Cuba.”
“We learn to become humane doctors with ethical values, caring for people's needs
rather than focusing on money or materialistic things,” he said. “The Latin American School of Medicine means a lot to Palestinians because it has given us a great opportunity to achieve our dreams of becoming doctors. We are here to return to our homeland as doctors and help our people.”
🎥 From Gaza to Cuba is now LIVE. Watch the full film and share Murid’s story with the world: https://t.co/rtt0yqtpcM
