We just recovered our account. But what just happened?

The TLDR: is that we were victims of a phishing attack. We want to share the details openly so others can better protect yourselves from such attacks.

This morning, we received an alarming email claiming someone managed to access our Twitter account from an Italian IP. Was that person about to give us some nice Neapolitan pizzas? Probably not. In an attempt to secure the Borpa account, our intern unfortunately clicked on a link that appeared legitimate but was actually a phishing website. This led to our account credentials being compromised. He quickly deactivated our 2FA and used his own key, blocking us from accessing our account.

He then delegated the Twitter page to a user with the handle @truongak97 (notorious gorples), who started publishing scam links.

We've immediately talked with several partners, and it turns out these methods are now being aggressively used against multiple projects. To any project reading this or any member of the community, we highly recommend a refresher in terms of project accounts’ security. Never trust a link someone sends you. We paid the price for it so you don’t have to.

The main thing is, we have now fully recovered the account and will make sure to help all members affected by this issue. Yes, it's another bump in the road, but at this point we're immune to everything. This will not affect our work towards launching the financial game.

Thanks to all the community members who quickly helped spread the word that our account was compromised.
